  1. Anyone know the admits visit date at Washington statistics?
  2. I believe that many of the courses offered are taught be adjunct faculty and that the purpose of the program is to make money for the department. The program might be fine for someone who wants a job in industry. I would recommend that you look at the required courses. Then take a look at the courses offered this semester. A web search will then allow you to see which faculty are teaching the classes. You can then do another web search to see whether these are regular faculty or faculty who just come in to teach from outside for extra compensation.
  3. I think it might depend on whether you are a domestic or foreign student. Did you do both grad and undergrad in US?
  4. All three programs are very strong and good for future academic placements. The choice should really be based on your statistical interests. Historically Chicago was a very strong theoretical department when Bahadur was there but that is now a long time ago. Now Chicago is very strong in terms of applications to say genetics or finance. The theoretical focus is in probability rather than statistics. Duke is clearly the place if you want to focus on the Bayesian approach. Upenn is not a good choice for industry as it is focused much more on theoretical statistics as well as areas such as causal inference and in both these areas it is very strong. It is strange that it is in the business school as few of the faculty are interested in business.
  5. Wharton has recently been placing more emphasis on the doctoral program and has had good academic placements recently. Even though the faculty has little interest in business there are perhaps some students who apply there because it is in the business school. These students will almost always be rejected because the strength of the department is on the theory side as well as areas such as causal inference. Perhaps the first round of rejections was focused on those who did not fit the program well. Perhaps you should contact them directly to see what is going on.
