  2. ^^I cosign everything sociology said, the stuff about the Fort Sanders area is very true. Every time UT sends out Alert Texts it's usually about some mess happening in that area. About Apartment Res Hall...I dont know it UT has sectioned out floors for grad students, but ultimately I feel like most of their housing is catered to undergrads if that matters to you. Andy Holt Apartments are much older and dated, plus you have four roommates and have to share a bedroom with one. I know they advertise having apartments where you can have your own room and only one other roommate but those are very limited. Students try to get into Volunteer Hall since it's much nicer and you'd have your own room, but it's hard to get into...not sure if grad students have priority or floors sectioned off. They have pics on their website of the locations. Good luck!

    Laptop!

I wanted to show support for my Asus k50IJ that I got in July 2010 after my Compaq computer crashed. The Compaq constantly overheated and would do many automatic shutdowns, so it wasn't a big surprise...but still, I'd only had the machine for two year, smh. A coworker of my mother's who's tech savvy recommend Asus to me and I'm forever grateful! The only problem ive had in the last year is that the computer will freeze for a little bit every now and then...but I never have to restart, after 3 to 5 minutes the computer corrects itself. My computer is not the best for portability, but I think Asus has some brands that are lighter weight now. The battery worked pretty great, only recently have I had to replace the battery & the adapter cord, which I think is normal since I've had this laptop for over 2 years. I'll likely be looking into a new computer before I start grad school in the fall and will hope to get another Asus! I hope there's some machines in the Asus brand that can fit your computer needs, good luck!!
  4. So I've been accepted to The University of Tennessee MSW program in Knoxville--no idea if I'll receive funding yet. This is my first choice school since I did my undergrad here & it's close to my hometown. But, It's possible that I can get into The Uni of Tenn at Chattanooga's Counseling program, If I did, I'll be able to live with my mom (Who I love!) & save on some costs. My mom is already leaning towards me staying home if I get into UTC instead of heading back to Knoxville, but I would love to move away again + I feel there's more opportunities for social workers wanting to help out in the community in Knox. Should I attend UT Knox? I'm hoping the 20,000 loan offer from my FAFSA will suffice since ill be getting instate tuition, I have no car so I don't have to worry about payments on that & my mom pays my cell bill. I have $10,000 to pay back in loans from my undergrad. I'm thinking this could be a reasonable financial risk to take + I'm thinking that a degree in Social Work would be better than a degree in clinical counseling, then again both seem pretty interchangeable....any advice is appreciated!
  5. @ELM616, I did summer school at UT one year--the summers are pretty hot! Plus, Knoxville has a lot of hills, so walking uphill in the heat can suck--you get used to it though lol. However, we hardly hit over 100 and stay in the 90s, maybe that's cool for you?! It stays pretty hot into August and early September. Fall and especially winter is very mild. From late Sept to early November you have a mix of spring weather days (60s, 70s & 80s) and some days where it's in the 50s & 60s or colder....the weather is very bipolar! I just completed my undergrad at UT, am looking to go to grad school there, and I've stayed in that region (east TN) all my life.
