SFSU essay - single space/double space?
SAY24 replied to dragon_0113's topic in Social Workers Forum
Hello everyone. I did 1.5 space for my statement as it didn't specify. I wanted to do double space as this shows that you can be very concise, but I didn't have enough time to keep editing, and I didn't want to cut so much out of my essay. Last year, I did single space and didn't get in, but I am sure there are other reasons for that, like not enough work experience.... As well as 800 other applicants for 25 spaces! lol, it's a long shot. Good luck to everyone! -
Hello, just wondering, what school are you referring to? thanks!

Hi Wolafar, I got the same email about accepting the financial aid package. I emailed the financial aid office to ask them if they send this to everyone who filled out a FAFSA, or if their records show that I had been admitted. They replied saying, "You received this because you filed a fafsa." I think its messed up to send this to us if we have not been admitted, it is kind of like false hope! But, it seems that is what they do at SFSU. I know of six people who have already been accepted to the program for Fall 2013. One is title IV-E and the rest IFG. I believe they are only accepting about 25 and I think they had about 700 applications. That only leaves 19 spots left. The chances are slim, but don't give up hope. Check your SFSU Gateway for updates and check the mailbox. It seems they are letting people know at different times.

Congratulations to you! Would you feel comfortable posting your stats? Like your GRE, GPA, work experience type and length, etc.? It would be great for all those who were accepted or wait listed to post this (and their concentration) so those of us who didn't get in can see what they were looking for this year. I got rejected for CMH, but am glad the wait is finally over. It feels like a relief! I will work on getting more experience now. Best of luck to all those who are still waiting. -

Hi Dida, my top school is UCB, too! However, I may not have quite enough experience yet, but feel the rest of my app is strong. If not, I will apply again next year. I just don't want to get on the wait list and continue living my life in suspension! Although it might feel a little better than a flat out rejection... The 18th is so far! -
I didn't apply to any of your schools, but I feel the same way!!!! We are supposed to find out March 18-22 for my top school and it is seriously too far away. I just want to know so I can be completely present in other aspects of my life. I saw the U of GA campus at Athens last year and it is gorgeous. Love their bus system. Is that where you applied?

Oh that makes sense. Thank you. Congratulations to you on getting in! May I ask you what your top choice school is? I see you applied to five. You already have three out of five- that's very impressive! -

Hi Dida, did you get accepted from SFSU for the MSW on 3/12?? I wasn't expecting them to notify us until April or May. Thank you. -

I wonder if they are doing it by concentration? On last years UCB MSW thread it seemed like it. Have any CMH applicants heard anything yet? I applied for this concentration. Good luck everyone. -

Hi Carrielyn, I am so sorry to hear about this especially on the day you lost your job. That sounds tough to take. I am dealing with the loss of someone who used to be very close to me, so if I get rejected, I will be experiencing a double whammy too. We will make it though! It looks like you already have an acceptance somewhere else though and that you are still waiting on a few other schools. I hope you have a few other options to choose from and wish you good luck! May I ask you what concentration you applied for? -

Hi Hikerboy, did you apply for the MSW alone? I read somewhere on the SW forum that someone who applied for a concurrent degree had a different time frame for notification. Also, I believe PhD applicants are on a different time schedule. If you did apply for just the MSW I would contact the office to find out why you weren't included. Best of luck and keep us posted! -

Yes, I also received the email. When I saw it, my heart skipped a few beats because I thought it might be the admissions decision. It was really unexpected because no one mentioned getting it in last year's thread (check above). Maybe its the first year they're doing it? I think my obsessive checking will subside for a week or two (and then pick up right where I left off). You are more than welcome, friedgreentom!!!!! -

Hi friedgreentom! Yes, they told me (by email) that results would be out in mid-March without any specifics. Though, I am prepared for a possible earlier notification just because people were notified at various times last year (check the link below for the experiences of last year's applicants). I believe it might be done by concentration. Also, if you want to see actual dates of some people being notified last year, open the google doc link I posted above. I think its never too early to compulsively check!!! Regarding impressions made by contacting the office: I don't think anything (within reason of course) will phase them or affect our applications in anyway. Applicants feeling anxious is normal, especially when people have earlier acceptances from other schools and need to accept or deny those offers by a certain date which they don't want to do until they know if they got into UCB. Also, the people working in the office shouldn't be the same people who are on the admissions committee because those are faculty members. I think we're safe as long as we don't harass/stalk the professors! LOL -

Kmed, I know what you mean about just wanting to know one way or the other! I want to get on with my life whatever the results (which I hope are good, but if not I'll just apply next year if I don't get into the other program I applied to). Briefinterviews: Thanks for that, its good to know that the email might come at any time! That means I have a legitimate excuse to be online 24/7 compulsively checking my email and admission status page! Congratulations on getting in! For anyone who hasn't found this on an old string from 2012, this is the admission dates and 2012 accepted students info. Hope any 2013 applicants find it useful! https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Aozu1_eDIatfdDJNeWlOX0duSU1JeGF3dkJCejVySHc#gid=0
