  1. Wow, Hawaii would be an amazing place to go to school! Congratulations!
  2. I've been lucky. Even with a low GPA I have already been accepted to 2 schools. I applied to places where my boyfriend is looking for police jobs. The major stress I'm experiencing is not having heard from any of the other Michigan schools I applied to, since he has an interview with the Michigan State Police on March 9th. He also has an interview with the Dallas Police Department from March 21-24, which isn't so stressful since I have already gotten into UT Arlington. If anyone has been to or knows any information about UT Arlington's program, I would love to hear about it!
  3. These are schools with very good academic reputations. I doubt they accept "anyone." I think the reason that the acceptance rates are high, if they actually are, is because those who are looking to apply to graduate school are generally intelligent people. Therefore, while they can't accept all the applicants who meet their requirements, they would like to give the opportunity to as many promising candidates as they can. At least that is my outlook on it.
  4. I think this post will help you a lot in terms of determining the best school for you. Reading that post has helped me a lot in terms of deciding what school I would like to attend. I hope it can help you too.
  5. I'm in a pretty similar position, but I have gotten into some schools as well. I have gotten into a state school and hope to hear from some others soon. I know the California schools can be fairly picky, but as one person suggested, you should apply to a lot of schools. More applications means more opportunities to be accepted, regardless of your GPA. In your applications, just acknowledge that your GPA is lower and take ownership of it. Tell them what your situation was that made your GPA so low and why it would be different in graduate school. Hope this helps a bit.
  6. Each school should have specific deadlines for filing Financial Aid. If you're talking about scholarships, I think those applications need to be submitted with your application to the school. The federal deadline for FAFSA is June 30, 2014. The state deadline for Illinois is ASAP after January 1, 2013. The state deadline for Massachusetts is May 1, 2013. As I stated before, each school will probably have their own deadlines, so I would suggest filling out the online form as soon as you can.
  7. Thanks for the support, I really appreciate it It's always hard playing the waiting game when it comes to applications. And good luck on your interview with Hunter, I'm sure you'll do very well!
  8. I have scheduled an interview with the Admissions Advisor at Michigan State University's MSW Program and I have a few questions about it. My first question is, since their GPA requirement is a 3.0 and my undergraduate GPA is a bit below that, should I email the Admissions Advisor asking whether or not this will automatically disqualify me for admissions into the program? I am curious because it wouldn't make sense to drive there for the interview just to be told that I would be rejected. Also, if he agreed to interview me in the first place, do you think he looked over my application file (not really sure how that works) and decided to go ahead and interview me? If so, then it might be something that could work in my favor and give me the opportunity to explain why my GPA was low (which was due to an extremely tumultuous family situation). If there is anyone who could help me with these questions, I would greatly appreciate it
