Has anyone heard about funding for SDSU? -
Is anyone going to IU? I was unable to attend the open house - how did everything go?? I've been having a hard time getting ahold of faculty members there to schedule a visit so I'd appreciate anything you can tell me.

UW- Madison SLP Accepted Students
g1slp replied to Mflynn423's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
Hi! I'm out of state too but I've heard some things through the grapevine that might help you out. I remember at the open house a grad student recommended emailing Maureen Garity and telling her you need a roommate, and she will put you in touch with other students. Or, you could always try Craigslist if you want to live with someone outside the SLP program. I think most people live relatively close to Goodnight (like within a 10 minute walk - I've heard the meters are really expensive so not many drive, and there is of course a bus system)). I'm deciding between a few schools so I'm not totally committed to Madison yet, but if I figure anything else out re: housing I'll let you know! -

Is anyone currently doing their undergrad at SDSU? Looks like I may not be able to visit and I would love to know more about their program, faculty, campus, etc. from someone who's been! -
Is anyone on the forums looking to do bilingual speech-language pathology (particularly Spanish-English)? I applied to a variety of schools, some with a bilingual emphasis or certificate and some without, and I am having trouble assessing which path would be best. I will most likely end up working in the Chicago area where, I have been assured by current SLPs, I will "definitely" have access to bilingual clients regardless of my training. That being said, I want to make sure I at least get some amount of practice in bilingual speech-language pathology before I begin my professional experiences, and I want to keep my Spanish language skills in tact until then. My main concern is that I do not want to specialize at the cost of other areas I may be interested in (i.e., I don't want to sacrifice learning about other things to focus specifically on bilingualism - that seems limiting!). Is anyone else going through this? Is a bilingual certificate/emphasis rendered unnecessary if a university could potentially provide a bilingual experience during clinicals (however minimal)? Would the more important thing be to make sure a university has a bilingual clinical supervisor? What are your general feelings towards specialization or extra certificates that complement your degree? Literally any advice would be appreciated!

Sure, I've got a few questions! Do you know anything about UW-Madison? Unfortunately when I attended their open house the weather was just awful so I didn't get to walk around as much as I would have liked. (And judging from your handle maybe you already go to school there?)

SLP 2013 CALIFORNIA Admissions!!

Haven't checked the portal but last night it didn't say anything. Just talked to Dr. Ignatius Nip, he was very nice. Says there is no formal open house planned but people can just schedule a visit whenever (except he said the campus is closed on April 1, so not then). They don't know yet how much money they have for assistantships and funding in general but he said they should know how much they have and who gets what before the April 15th deadline. -

Funding was not mentioned in my voicemail but I need to call back and talk to him. FYI the call came up as a "Withheld Number" on my cell. -

That was me!!! Swear it's true! Some guy, I accidentally hit reject the call because I am an idiot and he said I was in! So shocked. Good luck to everyone else! -
Is anyone bringing a guest to the Open House? Wanted to check if that was kosher. Super excited!

BU Interviews for Fall 2013!
g1slp replied to katieliz456's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
Whew! Done! I think it went well. Interview lasted just under 10 minutes via Skype. Questions are pretty basic, one that kind of took me off guard was "What do you think is an important issue in the field right now?" or something like that. But the interviewers were soo nice - they make the program seem really great. Good luck to everyone else!! -
BU Interviews for Fall 2013!

Does anyone know with whom the interviews are conducted? (Particularly Skype interviews?) Just curious! Mine's bright and early tomorrow. -
Slightly off-topic -- Did anyone apply to ASU's bilingual track? This is way late in the game and I wish I had clarified this earlier, but these interviews have nothing to do with acceptance to the bilingual track, right? From what I can see on the website it says that they "assess your Spanish in an interview" after you are already attending school there -- meaning that it would be possible to attend ASU and then only afterwards find out that you are not admitted into the bilingual track? Is that right? (Am I making sense?) The bilingual emphasis and the study abroad opportunity in Mexico were definitely contributing factors in my decision to apply to ASU, but I would be much more hesitant to commit to a (theoretical) acceptance if they weren't sure things. Does anyone know how many people typically express an interest in the bilingual track / how many students are accepted into the bilingual track?
