  1. Me, three. I'm referring to these later rejections as "closure."
  2. I am still waiting to hear from two programs that would definitely be contenders although I relatively confident that I should expect rejections from both. I have two funded offers, have a third offer where I have been wait-listed for funding, and have been told I'm very high on a wait-list for another school and that offer would include funding. I'm about 65% sure of where I'd like to go. I'm visiting that school next week, and if I like it, it's likely I'll be 90% sure of where I'd like to go. Unfortunately I'm not visiting two of the programs until the last week of March, but I hope to make a decision promptly after those visits - ideally by April 1st. I would recommend making a list of all the factors (broadly - funding/cost, program and POI factors, location) that you're considering and start thinking about the weight each of those factors carry. Ask direct questions to faculty and staff about those factors and take lots of notes when you visit.
  3. I'll claim a piece of the Columbia Sociomedical Sciences PhD rejection bomb.
  4. I hope my comment was taken in jest - it was certainly meant as such! I'm definitely happy with the offers I have received, and wouldn't wait another year to attend school. Mostly, I'd like to start making my decision, and I feel like I'm missing all the information needed to do so. I imagine after I get a couple visits under my belt it will feel easier, so that's good. I was just wondering if there was any insight into the mysterious ways of the adcomm in terms of releasing their decisions. Thanks for your thoughtful responses!
  5. Well, I am certainly going to tell myself this is why I haven't been rejected yet - I'm just too darn highly qualified!
  6. I know some schools (yes, schools to which I applied) have released some admit offers, some wait-list spots, and some rejections, and yet there are still students who have not heard (yes, me). What gives?
  7. Thanks! I'm definitely excited about both of the funded offers that I have and hope that visiting will make it clear which is the best fit. I just wasn't sure if the idea of not visiting wait-list offers was ludicrous.
  8. I have funded offers from Michigan and UMass. I'm wait-listed for funding at Rutgers.
  9. Can you give examples of some "difficult questions"? I also have a general question to all: I have one offer that is currently unfunded although I am on a wait-list for funding. I am also wait-listed at another program though I believe that any offer that could eventually come through would include funding. I feel strongly that I would not choose a program that I wasn't able to visit. I am awfully hesitant to spend my own money to visit programs I cannot attend unless I get funding or get off the wait-list. I completely agree that a few thousand dollars would not change how I made my decision, but I simply cannot accept an unfunded offer when I have other funded offers available. Anyone in the same boat? What would you recommend? Visit on your own dime?
  10. I think it's been said before but reached out to Columbia and was told all admitted and wait-listed students had been notified. Wish they would have been faster with getting those "closure" emails out.
  11. Haha, I've got to hold on to the Amherst acceptance but I'd happily trade admit ratios w/ you! You're knocking it out of the park! Are you still waiting to hear from Amherst?
  12. Just sent out a blaze of inquiries... expecting a lot of rejection. Which I shall refer to exclusively as "closure" henceforth.
  13. Seconded! Here's hoping to more decisions for everyone this week - don't forget, March begins Friday!
  14. Thanks, this is good to know.
  15. Out of curiosity, Farragoshy, when did you hear from Brandeis? I'm thinking about caving and sending them an email. Ready for my rejection...
  16. Anyone reached out to UPenn and know whether they're done with admissions offers? I mean, it's not like I'm trolling for rejections but let's get this show on the road.
  17. I saw that one of those specifically listed the psychology subfield and I'm wondering if the other two were for psych as well. Since interviews are standard for psych programs and not so much for sociology, yes? Perhaps this is just another denial tactic...
  18. Anybody else apply to the Sociomedical Sciences program at Columbia? Any word?
  19. Yep. Online status isn't updated.
  20. Heard from UMass, accepted, should except a formal letter soon.
  21. I was accepted to Michigan, with full funding. I haven't heard from everywhere but right now it's my top offer.
  22. Just found the black hole that is this website. Dumped my results into the survey. Is it normal to see a school having sent out acceptances, waitlists, and rejections and STILL have not heard anything?
