  1. So I am trying to get in touch with a professor that is new to the department and just came out of working in industry. However all my draft emails seems to come off a bit rude, as copied below. Does it seem rude, overly blunt or otherwise to anyone else; or am I over thinking this? I am an entering master's student and noticed some of your interests includes _____. Unfortunately I could not find any additional pertinent information on the school's network or in a broader internet search. I was wondering if you can provide some more information with your ongoing research or provide any recent publications as I continue to look for a research adviser. Thanks!!
  2. Hello. Anyone in the engineering program, specifically the Aero/Mech?
  3. Le sigh. Thanks for the update. Wonder whatever happened to the deadline they set in previous correspondence through the application portal.
  4. @TransferFunction Yes Don't know what to think anymore, I've seen acceptance and rejections on the results page and historically they should have released all decisions already...
  5. So as April 15th approaches, it looks less and less likely that institution 1 will have a decision by Monday. However I have been accepted at institution 2. Now my question is should I accept the offer of admission from institution 2 just in case even though there might be a possibility of me not attending? I have no funding assigned to be as of yet. Also I spoke with the department chair a few weeks back and he said they'll understand if circumstances change after the 15th and I end up not attending even though I accepted. I understand that if I do this though, I am potentially taking another applicant's spot at institution 2. This is for an MS program that might or might not lead to a PhD program at the same institution. The order in which each institute appears in my question is not significant, might be an unconscious thing though. Help please
  6. Another round of decisions and still nothing... I fear some of us are going to find out the 15th at like 10 pm.
  7. Who are you emailing or are you using the application messaging system?
  8. I am also waiting to hear back, they seem to be slowest out of the UC system and comparable schools. If their CS decision timeline is any indication compared to other schools, I'm afraid we'll be waiting until May...
  9. I got rejected at UC Irvine, UW. Still waiting on UC San Diego.
  10. That is really late! I heard back at the end of February. Maybe they process California residents first? Though I would think they like out of state residents.
  11. From what I read, they initially assign an advisor but you can switch until the end of the first quarter, don't quote me on it though.
  12. I can't decide between fluids and structures, so I'm looking into Dr. LaSaponara and Dr. van Dam. I'm also interested in who they are going to assign to me if I do decide to attend, wish they tell you that as part of the acceptance letter.
  13. I'm arranging it through the grad coordinator via email, she's pretty prompt. Out of curiosity, which professor(s) are you interested in?
  14. I don't know about funding, haven't heard anything yet. But I'm planning a visit for the beginning of April so I'll probably ask them the chances of any type of aid, even work study. Also I think if you're thesis track, once you get under a professor you'll get at least some funding; or I'm just being hopeful?
  15. Sorry to chime in. I don't think Davis looks too heavily on GPA. I have a 3.1 for my UG and got accepted into the masters program. Good luck.
  16. The problem with the aerospace field is that half the jobs are tied to defense, so you have to be a US citizen. There is a portion that only requires you to satisfy ITAR (lots of the commercial space stuff); so depending on what country you're a citizen of, it excludes even more jobs. A lot of aerospace engineers are going going into energy related fields, wind turbines, gas turbines, etc. It is really down to what you want to do within the field since aerospace encompasses a bit of everything. Hope this helps.
  17. I heard back from Davis the third week of February (Aero/Mech). San Diego sent me a message saying they were still evaluating PhD applicants earlier this week so I'll be waiting awhile. Also still waiting on Irvine.
