  1. Anyone else waiting on McGill Epidemiology? (MSc/MPH/PhD)?
  2. Very different cities/cultures within those cities as well, so I would take that into consideration. I think the reputation of UofT/McGill is almost mute at this point, in terms of how the university is viewed nationally/internationally. One PROGRAM/department may be more well known than the other, but that I'm not sure of (and that is not necessarily a deal breaker). Sounds like the structure of the programs are quite different as well, and you are leaning more towards UofT's approach. If you don't care where you live/about the ranking (as I think they're both comparable) - I'd go with the program which you like the structure of more.
  3. Eagerly waiting to hear back from McGill's PhD in Epidemiology program! Has anyone else applied to this program? (Best of luck to everyone in your academic pursuits!)
  4. From my experience Audie, funding is not often provided for professional masters programs, particularly programs which are accelerated (ie. take 1 year instead of 2). I also do not think you can apply to OGS unless you're doing a research/thesis-based masters or PhD, so I don't think it matters you missed the deadline! Sometimes you can be offered/guaranteed a paid practicum to offset expenses, but that's the closest thing I've heard to 'funding.' I'm sure some universities have specific internal awards for their professional programs though (I'm mostly talking from my experience with MPH; masters of public health, professional degrees).
  5. I've been commuting about 2 hrs 15min (one-way) so about 4 and a half hours to the graduate school I currently attend. The kicker is, I only have to do this ONCE a week (as I am finishing up my master's). It is incredibly draining to do this (obviously once a week is fine, but 5 days a week? I would die). I would go as far to say that the 4-hours commuting would outweigh almost EVERYTHING that you mentioned as being 'better' at Fordham. You need to be realistic, you cannot commute 4 hours a day and be productive/energized to do research ESPECIALLY when you're thinking about starting a family. It is out of the question, in my mind anyway.
  6. That said supplicant, they may reject you on the basis that you did not get external funding - so it may NOT be the best news in the world (if the school indeed waits to offer admissions based on external funding decisions). I wish you the best of luck though on getting in, hopefully it is the case that they just wanted to see if they NEEDED to give you extra internal before letting you in . You should also keep in mind that because OGS is decided upon by each department/university now, that if they're awarding OGS to applicants - those are obviously the people they're going to let in initially (as they had the strongest applications across the board).
  7. I applied to a program on December 15th 2012 and the status hasn't changed at ALL since then (still sitting at 'Ready for Review'). That said, I wouldn't be surprised that it took them a little over a month to send yours over for review, as it has been almost 3 times as long for some of mine. Doesn't seem 'really late' at all if they say they'll be out by the end of the month either.
