  1. You keep pushing this, which I guess any business person would do, but people can easily use this site, the admissions office, former supervisors, former professors, searches on LinkedIn (to find people from your job or school who are now at or alumni of HKS), etc to do almost anything on your site for free. Maybe you do have some value added but I would hope someone looking to be a part of HKS and finding solutions for the future would have the ability to use those resources to figure out how to write an SOP or build a resume. But maybe that's just my personal bias. I found this site and the work Matt Clemons did with the admissions blog to be extremely helpful in getting me where I want to be without spending a dime.

Which school / program are you attending now?

  2. I didn't meet with any admissions people prior to getting in, but did email professors whose interests I shared.  Really not sure how much any of that factored in though.

hi, i tought u had posted the web link for the admissions blog, anyway, just in case for the others here to read who maybe havent seen it

  3. That's because Revolution can't get into a top MBA program and so he takes out his frustration on people applying public policy schools so that they feel as value-less as he does. He's a broken record and de-rails every thread he touches.

    hey guys, lets keep it cool; ok fair enough, revolution is bashing at PP/IR programs, but soapwater ur personally attacking him by saying "he's not good enough"; how do u know that; i havent seen him personally attack or offend ppl; he just complains about schools and not ppl, which is a freedom of speech;

i can understand though that, as a PP/IR hopeful, u dont want someone talking negatively about a school that u may attend soon, which is psychological; but stand above it, revolution wont be the first or last dude to challenge u on going to PP/IR school, i speak from experience..

  4. I think SIPA's bad rap comes from the fact that they offer little or no aid for 1st year students and additionally the program is massive so many students are left without jobs upon graduation. I dont have facts but I read in the Foreign Policy that their students have the lowest employment rate out of all the top 10 schools.

reason for sipa's relatively poor job placement is that columbia has 2 top rated grad schools right next door, business and law; its tough to shine in the shadows of such competition

  5. Completely disagree with these rankings. HKS is hardly the top IR school when its not even completely IR focused. SAIS or SFS would be number one on that list followed by Fletcher and SIPA. HKS and WWS, while fantastic programs, I would consider them more generalist programs rather then specific IR programs. YMMV.

man, i dont know what world u live in, but putting sais or sfs ahead of hks or wws, thats idealistic at best..

  6. Thanks man. Yeah I've been fantasizing about going to a top b-school for a while and have worked my butt off for it. My dream combo is wharton-hks. I felt absolutely nothing when i got into sais with fellowship, but getting into a top b-school such as Wharton will be the greatest day of my life and the mba will be a truly transformational experience professionally, personally, and socially. As much as I like SAIS' curriculum, it just won't do the same: questionable private sector placement, and I don't think I will learn that much from my classmates.

take my advice, do NOT commit to a program that ur not fully convinced about. u will detest the time u spend there, the money u pay, and the ppl u study with.

its not worth the time u invest and the opportunity cost u forfeit. sure, u learn a lot and meet nice ppl, but u dont hv to necessarily go to grad school to achieve that.

follow ur heart, do no listen to what others want u to do, or what is socially expected from u. bcs ur gonna be the one studying for those exams and writing those dreadful papers. u better enjoy it if u wanna make sth out of it.

  7. I applied to mba programs as well and waiting to hear back from them.

Hey guys, stop bashing @ Revolution, the poor guy is just trying to get into the schools same way we do.

Ok, he may have had some mixed experiences surrounding the appl. process, but give the guy a chance to air his frustrations here, its a forum.

Everyone has dreams, incl. me !!

  8. @Tom-MPP:  They have a link to the forum for admitted students that has been talked about elsewhere, and the standard stuff that other schools have had on sites they link you to after admission: info on the admitted students day, how to submit your deposit, various deadlines, etc.

just wondering, how much is the deposit? does the admit day sound exciting (special guests and so on)?

am sure there is already some eager admits trying to setup a flat share and all that :)

  9. That latest admissions blog makes me think they've been getting harassed a bit by people wanting to know when they're releasing results...

I would not say "harassed". Look at other major PP schools. They either set a date or have already released decisions.

Sipa for instance had a late App. DL. of 5-Feb and will be releasing decisions from 18-Mar on. That's a mere 6 weeks processing time.

Now explain to me why Hks needs almost 4 months and can't even specify a release date? To me that's not harassment, but exposing incompetence.
