  1. Yep, it's renewable, provided I maintain my GPA and complete the work that is required of me!
  2. I was offered a graduate assistantship at Indiana U. I was initially waitlisted for funding, so I guess the first choice candidate decided to go elsewhere. The assistantship covers 30 credits for the 2013-2014 year and gives a stipend. I will be committing 12-13 hours a week to whatever work I get assigned to (haven't found out yet!). I was astonished that I was offered this position, considering I am not in the PhD program and my background is not speech!! My overall GPA was a 3.93, and my major GPA (psych) was something like a 3.9. 162V/160Q, minor in cognitive science with a linguistics focus, lots of research experience. Hope this helps
  3. Has anyone made a facebook group? I want to make one but apparently I can't be the only member! A group of one is perfectly valid, facebook
  4. 162V, 160Q, 5.0AW. I didn't have any SLP volunteer experience but I'd worked on two student research projects in my psychology department, one of which was an independent project for which I did a poster presentation at the EPA conference in March.
  5. YES! I'll send you a message
  6. I'm attending IU this fall from my MA in speech pathology! I've been looking at apartments and everything is so reasonably priced, at least compared to NJ!
  7. Accepted my offer from Indiana University-Bloomington and declined Boston University and Montclair State
  8. Thanks! And I'm glad to help! Send me a message if you have anymore questions
  9. It just so happens I can help you out with that!! You can pick up the 705 bus from the Red Hawk Deck (right across from the Montclair Heights station) which will take you to Broad Street. It's a short walk (barely 10 minutes) to the clinic! Routes 3 and 46 are always awful, so this is another option! Edit: Also if you take the train to Newark Penn there's another bus that goes right by the clinic. Unfortunately I don't remember the exact number, but I think it was 80 something? Check NJ Transit!
  10. Yep! And you're right, BU is ridiculously expensive (not as bad as NYU though) but it seems like a great program. I was drawn to the wide variety of clinical opportunities available to students, and of course being in Boston doesn't hurt! It's a tough choice! I went to MSU as an undergrad and took the anatomy prereq in the graduate program. My experience was wonderful. My professor and the current grad students were all extremely nice and helpful and seemed to really bond. The only thing I should mention is that the classes in the communication sciences department are held almost exclusively at the clinic off campus (a 10 minute drive). This means there is little to no interaction with any of the other graduate departments. If that's not a big deal then great but it's something to consider!
  11. I was thinking the same thing. I'd really prefer not to lose $200 on a possibility. The length plus my prereqs pretty much negates the benefit of paying in-state tuition. Basically I will probably be declining Montclair's offer. So good luck to you and gingersnap if you guys decide to accept and interview!!
  12. BU is one of my top choices, too! I just can't wait for this all to be over!
  13. I went nuts with the vocab. I got the WordSmart book and made cards for all of the words that I didn't know and those I kind of knew, which left me with at least 150 cards. I broke them into ~30 word sets alphabetically and drilled them constantly. Considering I kept losing most of my verbal points on the sentence completions, this helped me tremendously.
  14. For anyone wondering about Montclair's aid, I just got an email from the graduate coordinator about interviewing for a GA position (provided I accept the offer). Also apparently there were over 500 applicants!!
  15. There wasn't anything in the email but I'd guess that information would be mailed to us if they've decided on anything already. Edit: although I should say that if anything the CSND department decides on in regards to funding has to go through the financial aid office first, it could be a while. The CSND staff is wonderful, the financial aid staff... Source: dealt with that office for nearly four years as an undergrad.
  16. Woo, just got an acceptance email from Montclair, my alma mater! Congrats to everyone else who received good news, and lots of luck to everyone still waiting!
  17. Is anyone who was admitted NOT attending? I'm curious about the likelihood of getting off of the funding wait-list...
  18. I'm having a ton of trouble trying to decide between Indiana and BU. I haven't been able to visit the campus either (I'm in NJ) so yeah, any feedback from people who made the open house would be greatly appreciated!
  19. Anyone else not hear from Pitt yet? I thought maybe they just sent acceptances today but then I saw some rejections on the results board :/
  20. Finally got my packet! Lots of things to read!!!
  21. On the topic of Oliver Sacks, I definitely recommend Seeing Voices and Musicophilia, especially for those also interested in audiology.
  22. Congratulations to everyone who got good news today! Who else is glad this is almost over??
