  1. Hey there! I'd recommend IU School of Informatics & Computing's HCI/d program. It's an amazing program that incorporates design thinking with interaction design, but it's so much more than that. I come with a graphic design background, and I'm able to utilize my skills in graphic design and explore them further within the visual communication space. This program allows you to explore your interests very deeply. In addition to that, they give pretty good funding and career opportunities. They even have a career fair just for us masters students. The amount of faculty and student mentorship in this program is also astonishing. I came from another masters program where the faculty were hardly present (and it cost twice as much too). The best thing about this program is that it's okay if you do not have any design experience, they are looking to see your process and you'll learn by doing. We have folks from English to Psychology to Business!
  2. Hi all, I have been commuting to a masters program that is about an hour and a half away everyday. The program is okay, but I've barely had interactions with faculty, and my program only has our first year cohort. The second year cohort dropped the program probably because of the same feelings our first year cohort have had through out this year. The other problem is that I thought this program would be a little more technical than it actually is. In my hometown, there is a top program where I've been taking my elective course that has a vibrant program culture and professional development opportunities. Long story short, I was asked to join and admitted to their program with a full ride and I'd like to take it. How do I tell my current program that I will be leaving? I'm glad that I did a year of it, but I've found that my research topics align more with the new program. So many factors including this, the culture of the program, professional development opportunities, or the fact that I don't have to commute contribute to this.
  3. I heard from IUB- its a no go...
  4. Congrats! I just committed too and as I am commuting about an hour every day and quitting my sweet full time job, Im freaking out about money. My boyfriend is in school too so its going to be real hard on us.
  5. That's great that you applied for schools all over the place. A few years ago, I made the decision to stay in Indiana instead of moving out west (I love hiking and I really wanted to move to a little remote town somewhere with mountains) I stayed here for my BF because he wanted to start his undergrad. I knew this was a 4 year commitment and I really wanted to support his decision and make it work for us. All I can say is it felt right for me to stay... Job prospects here suck and you get paid very little, but luckily once I made the decision to stay I got a full time job and I even managed to buy a small house. It's been great but I do have the what if moments a lot... I could only apply to 2 schools (IU and IUPUI) and it looks like i'll be commuting to IUPUI since IU hasn't responded (ugh!). So anyways, long story short, there were a lot of tough decisions, and I am glad I stayed with my BF through and through... When he is done with his undergrad in 2 years, I will be done with my MFA so he decided I get to choose where we get to move together depending on my job prospects. Good luck and do what feels right, you'll still have the what if moments in either case but you'll know the decision you made is the right one.
  6. Thanks for the tip. I'm giving them one more week before I commit to Herron.
  7. IUB folks, they are still not done making final decisions yet. Some programs aren't doing waitlisting and are accepting folks and then waiting for them to accept/decline before adding more folks!
  8. Congrats on Florida! yeah I received a small amount from Herron as well for VCD... but its in-state for me and there are fellowships to apply for that start the second semester.
  9. Have you talked with the Director of Admissions Anthony Scott? He is the one that I have been discussing funding with... I also applied to another program at Herron and they have not given me any information yet and can neither confirm or deny that I got in, so I'm assuming they are holding out to see if they got acceptances from the first round... Has anyone confirmed that they are indeed going to Herron for Photo? I emailed the lady at IUB yesterday and she has not sent me a response yet. I need to make a decision soon and am frustrated that the other programs haven't given me a straight answer or an answer at all... It's only major life decisions you know... IUB is a great school. I've lived here for 10 years, I came here for undergrad and still here! Hold out as long as you can for IUB, you won't regret it.
  10. Oh Emoree, my sentiments exactly. I've been accepted to Herron for a program and I've received fee remission... BUT I am still holding out for IUB- not a word from them at all about anything-no waitlisting, no rejection, NOTHING. Im so frustrated because I really really love IUB's MFA programs. The quality of students are just excellent and I wouldn't have to commute.
  11. Good Luck! still no word from Dig. Art. I live in Bloomington so if you have any questions, holler at me!
  12. Rainbows... what program did you apply for? I have not heard a thing yet and I applied for Digital! So far I've heard that Printmaking and Painting have heard back?
  13. Just got accepted into Herron VCD program! Just a day before my birthday! Woot!
  14. Haha, I haven't heard from IU OR Herron, Im about to explode with annoyance... Faculty are both on their Spring Breaks, although staff are not unless they use their vacation time.
  15. Sorry to hear that. So far, I haven't heard anything yet but then again I haven't gotten to check my mail at home.
  16. Yeah, I heard they got ahold of printmaking and painting (just saw on here it was waitlisting) in Mid-Feb, but not sure about Digital Art.
  17. anyone get into RISD with just under a 3.0?
  18. Yes I did! My focus is more on digital art and time-based media.
  19. Congratulations! I haven't heard anything yet from Herron. Eeek! did you get any fee remission or funding?
  20. Yes, it is absolutely killing me.
  21. Im also in the same boat! eek! I've got a roof to redo and PT jobs to apply for if I get accepted!
  22. For the love of god has anyone heard from IU Bloomington- Digital Art or Herron School of Art Visual Communication Design or the Photography/Intermedia Program????? Also, I live in Bloomington and grew up in Indy so if you need any advice about it, holla at me!
