So sorry for those who didn't receive it this year.. Apply again next year!!! And hang in there to the alts, you never know!! But seriously, apply again, I this was my second attempt, so sometimes it just takes a little extra work! But it's worth it in the end!! I'm not gonna list you guys off because I feel like that would maybe just be putting salt to your wounds? But my heart goes out to every one of you, but gosh darn it, try again!!! BIG BIG Hugs to you guys!!
Thank you so much!!!!

Random thought here...can I just say that the word "Rejected" on the Google doc is harsh!! Surely those letters do not say "Sorry, but the country has rejected you." It should say "Not Accepted" or something semi-neutral, yes?

For all sub-Saharan African folks-- looks like, according to the Google Docs, tomorrow might be a potential day to hear back. Does anybody know when the average time of receipt for confirmation emails is? Morning? Afternoon? I put all my eggs in this sweet, sweet Fulbright basket, and I'm frightened.
Anybody else for Tanzania/Zanzibar?
Awwwwwwww... and I don't know about tomorrow...I don't see patterns arising in past years beyond mid to the end of April. Why do you think tomorrow??

Yes, I'm also waiting to hear about sub-Saharan Africa--ETA in South Africa. I've been watching the board for a while and decided it was time to join in to give support to others who are waiting.
I'm also waiting to hear about Sub-Saharan Africa. Did you get the save the date for orientation, too? Grrrr I just want to know!!! Seems most, over the course of the past few years, hear between mid-April to the end of April. So..SOON!

Anyone else's family wants them not to go to their country of choice? I applied to Jamaica (still waiting!!!!) and my family is COMPLETELY against it. They'd much prefer it if I went to London, where I've already been accepted.
I chose Rwanda (still waiting to hear) and my grandparents, who raised me, are totally against it. They think it's completely unsafe and they don't want me so far away in their old age, I'm sure. It makes things really difficult....

DId he specify if the orientation is specifically for ETA's only?? I applied for a research grant and definitely did not get an email.
faithfullywaiting, it says:
SAVE THE DATE
Dear Fulbright candidate:
You were recently notified that you have been recommended for further consideration for a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship to Sub-Saharan Africa. In the event that you are selected as a Fulbright grantee, you will be required to attend a Pre-Departure Orientation (PDO) in the Washington, DC area.
The Pre-Departure Orientation will be held from Sunday, June 9 – Thursday, June 13, 2013.
Selected candidates will receive an official PDO invitation and registration instructions later this spring. The costs associated with travel and accommodations for the length of the orientation will be covered by the U.S. Department of State.
If you are aware of potential conflicts with these dates, please wait until you have received your notification of selection before completing a request for exemption. Exemption requests are not guaranteed, and requests will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis by representatives from the U.S. Department of State.

I'm waiting to hear about my ETA to Rwanda application. I was recommended and then nothing for a long time...until I got an email from the guy heading the Sub-Saharan Africa ETAs. I got the email last week. It was basically like, "If you are chosen, you need to keep these particular dates in June open so that you can attend a mandatory Orientation in DC."
Did anyone else get that email??? Agh, I want to know the results already!!!

I would highly suggest NOT using the same personal statement. Whatever you've done in the year between will hopefully shape you and your concerns more than before, so it's good to rework it. Not sure if it's necessary to say you applied twice. I don't see how that would help your chances at all.
