  1. Thanks!!! For posterity, just thought I'd note, I just checked my portal and it still says "selection made". So that hasn't changed.

  2. Thanks for the heads up AntarK...sorry you didn't get it!! :( Oh my god. I haven't gotten anything...I hope that's a good sign! So much suspense...

  3. This is a notice that comes up on the portal now:

"The Portal will be under construction and not available for users between 8 am and 8.30 am on the 1th of April 2015. Please ensure that all your data is saved online or stored on your computer prior to this date. We appreciate your patience and cooperation!
To compensate for technical problems in the past couple of days the application deadline for personal funding applications which ends on March 31st will be extended to April 2nd."

I'm wondering if maybe the technical problems have caused some overall delays in workflow?

  4. jdawg12, did you call Bonn or North America? because if Bonn said "end of March or beginning of April" that doesn't bode well for us hearing by tomorrow...since if they were gonna release the results so soon they'd probably know more specifically.. unless they're just trying to torture us ahahaha.

  5. After applying I got this email from someone at DAAD New York:

"We would like to let you know that your application has been processed. You can expect to be notified by our head office in Bonn about the result either at the end of March or the beginning of April, 2015."

So it would seem we're supposed to hear from DAAD Bonn? Although I suppose that doesn't mean they couldn't spontaneously change it...

  6. I'm in Berlin this year. Yeah, technically I'm safe, and even by the time the DAAD grant starts, I won't have been in Germany for 15 consecutive months at any point in time (I emailed them before I applied and they confirmed it was about consecutive months). I just dunno if they'll look at it and say, "Hmm, two grants to Germany in a row...let's give someone else a shot." Haha. Oh well, guess I can't complain if that were a deciding factor...I'm pretty lucky! But I know that if I hadn't had all this time to learn about life in Germany I wouldn't have developed my research goals that I wanna pursue through DAAD...

So you're gonna be at the Hertie School of Governance next year even despite not getting the grant? That's pretty awesome. I have a friend in Berlin now who is starting that program next year too (also without funding). Good luck and hope it's a great experience! :)

  7. Hey guys,

I've been lurking for a while. I'm a 2nd year English Teaching Assistant in Germany and really hoping to get DAAD funding for an MA in Linguistics starting this fall. I felt good about my application, except that I'm now on my second year in Germany, and I wonder if that will affect their decision negatively... :(

Anyways, I saw your comments about how the "Funding programme" section got more detailed yesterday for some of you. I was wondering if maybe it did that just for the people applying for doctoral programs? Because I noticed that a couple of you for whom it changed are applying for that...No change in mine and I am applying for an MA. For the people whose thing didn't change, are you also applying for MAs? Maybe that's the reason.

Also, to Caelryck, sorry you didn't make it this time! I was wondering, are those numbers just for the Australian grants or are those the total Study Scholarship grants? Not really sure how it works from country to country. They are separate processes right so that's probably the number of Australian grants...?

Hope we hear soon...this wait is seriously killing me!!!! :(

  8. Hi all,

I'm a Fulbright Germany Full Grant grantee and I'm wondering if the fulbright Germany ETA facebook group can be open to all Germany fulbrighters (including Full grant). I'm not sure if there is a general one, but it would be nice to connect with anyone going to Germany...

Sure why not! Go ahead and join. I'm the admin for the group. If you want to post about that in the group, that'll remind me to change the group description next time I log in. :)  Incidentally do you know how many full grants there are to Germany this year?

  9. Hi everyone! I followed the same template as the country specific groups. I decided to make a group for Fulbright ETA 2013-2014 as something of a support network and place to exchange ideas amongst other ETAs, especially those who may not have as many colleagues in country.

That group can be found here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/123328967859396/

I also made a group for Fulbright Malaysia ETA 2013-2014: https://www.facebook.com/groups/128307870688089/.

I hope to see some people join! Good luck to everyone still waiting to hear!!

Yay thanks for making this! Just sent my request to the general group! :)

  10. The worst thing was how much my heart rate would increase every time I got a new email in my inbox. It would take several minutes for it to go back to normal. It made me feel crazy!!

there'sanappforthat, are you on the Fulbright ETA Germany 2013-2014 Facebook group yet?!

And I agree with whoever it was that suggested we make a general Fulbright 2013-2014 group! It would be great to stay in touch and compare notes, read each other's blogs, etc. :)

  11. A little late to the party, but I've been accepted as an ETA to Germany!     yay!

Congrats!!! Haha, love your username. Do you study philosophy? :)

Also don't forget to join our Facebook group if you haven't already! It's in my signature. :)

  12. I'm hoping they don't take much longer, seeing as how people still need to be placed at schools and such.

According to this page, the latest we should be notified is May 15th. I'm just surprised it's taken this long because according to everything I've heard, Germany is one of the earliest notifiers. :'(

  13. If Germany hasn't already sent in their list(s) to the FFSB, we would still have quite a few days more waiting, aside from that extra day for their holiday...so I'm hoping to all that is good in the world that the information is already back in the US.

I seriously hope so as well. Although I guess you never know if the FFSB or IIE actually does have to communicate with the host country during its final process or something?

  14. I don't know if this helps, but Germany has a holiday today (because of Easter) so likely no word from them until Tuesday or Wednesday at the earliest.

But aren't the final decisions made by the FFSB? Which is in DC. You would think the host countries would have already given their selections... but maybe not?

  15. I actually avoid most horror movies. I don't really mind gore so much, more psychological thriller type movies. It's not the nightmares that bother me, it's the falling asleep part!! I lay awake listening to every little sound in the house!!

Hehe that happens to me too but I just like them too much! I just need someone to watch them with though so I don't get to scared! I probably wouldn't watch them so much if I lived alone XD

  16. Baahahahha. hilarious!

    Unrelated but, whatever.

I had a zombie dream over the weekend, that somehow wasn't scary.

In my dream, I was trying to kill all the zombies that were after me, but I could never find a decent weapon. I didn't have a gun, and all the knives I kept finding were like.. steak knives, or prison shank quality. At first my strategy was to stab them in the brain, but it was too difficult to stab through the skull with a steak knife. Ok.. I was going to continue but then I realized that this is probably getting a little too graphic, and not everyone watches the Walking Dead and has been exposed to this kind of stuff.

    Eh. Anyway, cheers!

Hahaha wow. You are great. I have crazy graphic dreams like that too! All the TV and horror movies I watch don't help haha ;)

  17. Seriously! Lol, no too scared to contact them. xD If we do not find out today, then maybe on Wednesday?

Why not Tuesday? Just curious if there's something I'm missing... do they only operate on MWF or something?

  18. I'm kind of sad the weekend is over. Another week of nervous waiting...

Ugh, I know! What day this week do you all guess we might hear back? Have any of the Germany ETAs tried contacting IIE? Just curious if they have any projections. I don't want to be agonizing over this if the actual estimated time of notification isn't like for another month or something... >___<
