  1. Wow I feel like a lot more people here got into Toronto than Laurier. Though that's probably just because of the rosi trick that brought people to the thread. Haha

I'm curious though, how many of you that were accepted are coming out of work rather than finishing your undergrad? Number one thing I've been hearing is that I should have taken a year or two off and worked. Those who have shared seem to have amazing experience!

I worked for 3 years after undergrad. I think it can definitely help.

  2. According to DreamingMSW they were sent out yesterday. Which makes sense cause that's when ROSI was updated.

    Or not updated....

I'm assuming that also means all responses were sent out yesterday.

Unfortunately all I know about are the acceptance packages. I know last year people got acceptance, waitlist and rejections around the same time. I would assume they were all sent out but I have no idea. That's just based off last year.

  3. Hi Everyone  :)

I have been following this forum for the last couple weeks and decided to stop being a peeping tom and make an account! I just checked Rossi and saw that I have also been invited for the 2 year MSW. I was really relieved as I was wait listed last year and eventually received a letter of rejection.  Anyone know when we will be receiving letters? I feel like its not going to sink in until I see it on paper, haha.

I look forward to meeting all of you. Please keep me updated on the FB page:)

For those who don't get in the first time around-- no matter what, don't give up!!  It's not uncommon not to get in on the first try. One of my professors didn't get into grad school until his third time around, and he is very successful. Sit down and think of how you can improve your application for next year and spend that time doing it. There were many times when I felt getting in would be impossible but just try to stay level headed and focused. You will get to where you want to be:)

Congratulations!! Acceptance packages were sent out yesterday.

I was also waitlisted last year and it is my third time applying to grad school. There is definitely hope for everyone!

  4. DreamingMSW, I remember reading that you did not get in last year and not understanding how that was possible. More proof that very qualified people can still be waitlisted/rejected one year, and accepted the next. Big congrats. Must be such a relief. Clearly very well deserved.

That is so kind of you to say. Thank you so much. I am a true believer that if you want something bad enough and you keep persevering it will work out. I also believe that things work out the way they should. In all honesty, being waitlisted last year and the ultimate rejection put life into perspective for me. Prior to that I really rested everything I had on this MSW. I honestly put all my self-worth into getting accepted. When I didn't I decided to reevaluate things. I started realizing just how much I had in life and just how fortunate I was. I also started realizing that if I wanted it badly enough and if it was meant to be that it would happen eventually. And that really calmed me down. I decided to live in the moment and not put all my self-worth into getting to this program. Even this year I knew that if it didn't work out I would keep on going and constantly persevere so that I could live out my dreams.

Downfalls are not failures. They are the gas that keeps us going. At least that's how I see it. You are not a failure if you are waitlisted or rejected. You are not hopeless. Just keep your head up and it will work out.

Best of luck to everyone. I believe in all of you.

  5. Thank you very much. I hope so! As the 1 years said- I won't believe it until the package comes!

    Congratulations, DreamingMSW!

And for all my talk of just "wanting to know," right now I'm wishing I didn't know that I could check ROSI.  No status change for me either.  I'm hopeful that this means wait listed with hope as opposed to an outright rejection.  In my head I'm trying to rationalize things like "what if they started at a different end of the alphabet?" so the letter next week will at least give me a clear, unambiguous answer that my brain can't twist irrationally.

I wouldn't have any doubt that it is for real.  During the advanced standing application period everyone who had an "invited" got an acceptance package.  Everyone who had nothing were either waitlisted or rejected.  Never heard of anyone getting an "invited" and not actually being in.

  6. Hello everyone,

I was quite active on this forum last year but have been watching most of this year. It is so close to the acceptance/rejection/waitlist date that I have decided to come back on here!

I was waitlisted for the 2 year MSW last year at U of T and after what felt like the longest summer waiting, I was ultimately rejected. This year I decided to apply to a school in NYC for my MSW as well as U of T and I am thrilled to say that I was accepted to the NYC program. Unfortunately, the program is EXTREMELY expensive and I am not sure that I will be attending.

This is my third year applying to graduate school and my second year applying to an MSW. I have to congratulate KatRousi for staying so positive and really following her dreams. I have to agree that if this is what you want and if you are not accepted this year or haven't been in the past then keep following your dreams! It will happen eventually- at least that is what I strongly believe.

To answer Meg3's post: U of T sends out a letter in the mail- they do not send out emails.

The 2 year program accepts 140 students and last year I believe there were around 800-900 applicants (not sure on this year's number).

I am anticipating next week's results and, as many of you, I am checking ROSI constantly. Nothing up on my end either.

Best of luck to everyone. If it doesn't work out this year just keep going. It will work out the way it should.

    Hey everyone!

I just have a few questions:

I was wait-listed at Laurier for the 2 year MSW program. I was just wondering if anyone else was? And for the people that were accepted are you going to attend Laurier or are you thinking about declining your offer?

As well, does anyone know if U of T will be sending out an e-mail of April 7th, or just mail?

Finally, does anyone know how many people are accepted into the U of T 2 year program, and how many approximately apply?

Best of luck to everyone! And congrats to those who have been accepted! :)

  7. That does sound like you did your best.  The only other thing you may want to look at is your references.  Did you feel that they were strong? Were the people who wrote them knowledgeable? If the answer is 'yes' and 'yes', then I cant imagine what else you could possibly do.  You haven't been sitting back this past year so you have some good things to add which will only strengthen your application.

That's actually the one thing I think can be improved upon. I was only working with my boss for 6 months when she wrote me my reference and this year she knows me a lot more and I'm sure will write me a better letter. In addition I had another letter from a social worker I am working with but I didn't know her too well either- and now I know her very well. So same thing. My final one was from my thesis prof so I will use him again. I'm sure that one was good.

Thank you for all your support and kindness!!!
