For those of you who got the "recommended but not funded" line and (if you were like me) had written off your chances by this point, just thought I'd let you know that I just got an email from SSHRC saying that they are now in a position to offer me a Bombardier CGS scholarship. Whadayaknow!
Thought SFU-ers might be interested to know that of the 50 A-listers by the university, SSHRC funded 24 -- or a mere 48%! Last year they funded 30 out of 46, or 65%. WTF!?
Given that SSHRC bases its quota for the upcoming year on the number previously successful, it would seem that those like myself who got squeezed will be facing an uphill battle next time around. Brutal.
Crapshoot is right. I was ranked top by the University for my department, have a 4.33 GPA, stellar reference letters and a proposal that was considered by my supervisor and others to be top-notch. People kept telling me I was a shoo in. Fortunately, I never let go of that kernel of self-doubt.
SFU results have now been forwarded to departments. I got the cruel "recommended but not funded."
Does anyone know what that means, exactly? Do I still have a chance if people decline, or am I totally toast?
Regarding SFU, my Grad Secretary tells me she is always the last to know and to wait for the letter from SSHRC!
Damn you, SFU!
Oh, and congrats to all the winners (from more humane institutions) who have already heard!
