I wonder if they know how many awards, I think its safe to assume the 2,000 that they budgeted for right?

@skylyon, Great question that I don't have an answer for. I can tell you I got an HM 2009, and was all excited to get the award last year, but didn't even get an HM. Same thing happened to another buddy of mine. Moral of the story; its a crapshoot

curious if anyone else is applied from a terminal masters program, but is planning on going in to a phd program right after the masters? If so, how did you document this in the application? I included my grad transcripts from the masters program, but talked about where I'm planning on attending phd programs in my personal essay

Anyone have any projections for the number of pages this thread will grow before announcements?

Just got off the phone with the nsf grfp operations center and thought I'd contribute some food for thought. The recent appropriations by congress does mean that they're increasing the amount of awards to around 2000. When asked whether the new awards are targeting specific disciplines, she replied that the increase is discipline-wide, which equates to about a 5% increase in each discipline. Does this make sense? Also, she said that with the delay in reviewing, they are now targeting early april for the award date.

Okay I have to ask before getting excited. Has the rumor about 2000 awards this year been confirmed? Are we sure it's really happening?

I just spoke with a representative at the GRFP operations center and she said that the only way they'll announce awards tomorrow is if we reach 200 posts on this forum. Better get crackin!
