  1. Same here: born in Arkansas; grew up between there and Oklahoma. From what I've heard, Stillwater has really changed since I left. Guess that's what happens when the football team starts winning! Or I guess Boone Pickens could also have a little something to do with it...
  2. I've been meaning to ask, CrystalDee: where in Oklahoma are you? I grew up in Lexington and got my BA from OSU but haven't lived there in years.
  3. This is actually an awesome idea. I always struggle with gifts...
  4. Hang in there, Ph.D.H20; North Africa (or at least Morocco) applicants are right there with ya, waiting until the last week of April.
  5. If nothing else, 6-8 weeks would allow you to be confident in telling them, rather than sheepish and a bit concerned about either 2 weeks or, say, tomorrow. Especially given that you want to at least maybe keep the job post-Fulbright, you want to appear as confident and composed as you can. It'll be a mental and emotional boost for you, if nothing else.
  6. For what it's worth, I've told 2 previous bosses (or bosses at 2 previous jobs) about leaving to go to grad school. I did what you're thinking about doing: gave them about 6 weeks to 2 months notice. That's enough to allow them to plan for your departure (which means you have to help with the planning, but I guess that's just part of it) but not too much time so they feel they can let you go. I always felt like that was a good compromise between 2 weeks notice and too too much notice.
  7. Any Morocco finalists lurking out there? Hear anything yet?
