  1. I know a non-native speaker who got something like a 10% on her first GRE verbal; she cried for about a week over it. Then she studied 8 hours per day for almost two months, with a couple of guide books and no course. She was at about 98% on her retake. I raised my own GRE scores by about 15%(V) and 20%(Q) in between my two takes with about a week of study--maybe six hours per day. Glad to be done with it myself. Good luck! EDIT: The point I meant to make is to just put in your time and hard work studying. I used flashcards for verbal and just worked through the free Q guide that ETS has or had on their website.
  2. Your NYU advisor says loans are no problem, right? Have you thought about reapplying to some of the CUNY schools next year? I don't know about SLP, but in most of the education field, a degree from Hunter College can be as valuable as a degree from NYU (at least in the northeast, The NYU name travels better nationally). I have a TESOL related masters from another well known CUNY; my only bad professor in the program was a prof from NYU who was adjuncting at my college. NYU is in the coolest part of the city, but with a Metrocard, you could attend a cheap public school and still hang out in Washington Square on your day off. Good luck!
  3. Congratulations on your UT admission. You have some great schools to pick from. Have you heard back from OUHSC about a scholarship? I have not.
  4. I have been to OUHSC many times, but not to visit the SLP program. I feel good about the program based on my communication with the faculty and staff, and my visits tot he HSC itself. And of course the name recognition for a degree from OU is good, even if you leave the region. I doubt I'll bother visiting before I have to go for either orientation or enrollment. Congratulations on your acceptances so far. Good luck on your UT application! Austin is a fine town.
  5. Yeah, I'm in state too. I also heard the same thing about funding. Thanks for sharing the information. OU was my only school to apply for, because I can't leave Oklahoma right now (family reasons) and I wanted a degree that would travel well. Perhaps I should have applied to Tulsa, but that would have been an awful commute for me. OSU-Stillwater offers a lot more funding than OU for the clinical SLP program, or at least they have in years past. I considered applying, but it just didn't feel right to me.
  6. Did you get funding from OUHSC? I have been accepted at OU but no funding offer.
