  1. A wise point. I feel like it is completely foolish to take out over $100k for any degree (even HKS which is definitely relying on its brand name for some of the overcharging, no?). Perhaps some of those on this message board are willing to do so because they haven't lived in the real world for more than a year or two (and don't fully understand the consequences). Debt stinks and $100k of it is just not worth it.
  2. Definitely a fair point. I feel like if you've lived/worked/studied in DC before, going somewhere else (whether Boston or Bologna) is more appealing than heading back to the District. That said, I would agree that if you've never spent time in DC, built a network there, or experienced what Washington has to offer it'd be a tough choice. But as people have already mentioned, Boston is a hotbed of innovation and education (and the intersection between these two concepts is incredibly exciting).
  3. Nope--just was accepted to the program as well. I'd say the majority of students that I talked to do not do internships during the fall or spring semesters though. Instead they work on campus, TA, etc--and then do an intense summer internship. I think this is probably the best approach.
  4. Makes sense. Good to think through this important decision. I'd say that Fletcher's a much better choice in terms of the program and general feel. I understand your interest in being in DC, but Fletcher provides opportunities to get down to the District (during their annual career trips and in the summer). Plus you'll be busy with school and part-time internships will distract from the graduate experience (my two cents). I don't think you need to fret too much about housing. Davis is full of good options and most open up August or September 1st. Boston is notorious for overcharging/predatory apt agents, but I've found that Craigslist can turn up some good, no-fee finds. Just got to be persistent. Good luck with your decision.
  5. Who's getting pumped about Fletcher? I'm excited about the program, the student body, and their generous aid package. Where else are Fletcher admits deciding between? Hope to see everyone in Somerville in the fall.
