  1. Hi , I am looking for a really easy to use system where i cam simply save my phd files to a free internet source as a back up source.ndoes anyone have any suggestions please?
  2. Hi, I am early on in my (science) PhD, I still have 2 years left. I live in the EU and have american citizenship and would like to consider working for a while in the USA when I am finished. I know it is very different working in research in the USA and the UK and Ireland so I was wondering if someone could provide me with some adivce on 1) staying in research - University 2) lecturing only - NO research 3) Research in Industry , like for a company. Thanks a bunch !
  3. ok In Ireland or the UK which both have some of the most reputable universities and colleges you must be extremeley well rounded as an academic with years and years of post doc-ing and teaching behind you. Many professors who have obtained that position in the USA come to Ireland and the UK and expect to get a professorship and it will just not be given ... it is of the HIGHEST standard. I know someone in the geography department ( I am in Science myself ) This lady was an associate professor in the states and she came over here with her husband and she was gob smacked to be told she wont be able to be a professor and hold that title and grants. Here is it very hard, you cannot become a professor ( in science anyway I dont know about others but I presume its the same) withOUT running you own lab UNLESS you want to teach in a Institute if Technology in which case you would not earn the title professor. I do think this is the right case, I have american and eu citizenship. I am only very early in my PhD but I think the USA hand out professorships too easily and here I think its just too hard so ... In a way this is why I joined this site .. because I wanted someone to tell me what it is like the the USA with a PhD... what can you do .. can you lecture withouth having to ruyn a lab ? what is it like in industry working for a company?
