I was invited to visit my dream school a month ago. During my visit, the POI and I discussed in detail the project he/she would like me to work on. I was presented with two funding options and left campus feeling that an acceptance was on the way. In response to a follow-up e-mail, the POI said that my name was being recommended for admission and just needed to pass through the admissions committees. Through no fault of the POI, my name did not actually reach the committee until a little more than a week ago. I would like to assume that the rest of the process is just a formality, but I have a low GPA compared to most admitted students. Has anyone been in a similar situation and received a rejection? Would a professional e-mail to the grad admissions office benefit me?
