Yeesh, bleh. Sorry.
Haha! Sorry, sorry! That letter just rubbed me the wrong way.
-
Did either of you happen to check your online app? Does it says complete or incomplete?
I put VCU behind me. They sent a letter saying, "In any event, I wanted to notify you of your status as soon as possible, hence this letter. You will receive an official MFA application notification from the VCU Grauate School at a later date."
So... I'll get an official rejection letter later. This was a... What?
I got the letter and moved on.

I finally got a letter from VCU Sculpture yesterday. It was delivered to my parents house in VA, so those of you out of state should be getting one soon I think. It also included the patronizing letter about how "if you would just pay to do their summer program you might be prepared enough to get into VCU next year"
That peeved me too... I read the post by another person who said VCU sees it as their "fun money." Not really fun to me.

Yay! are you starting in September or January? Do you know what the media lab situation will be like in the new studio building? I forgot to ask in my interview.
I start in January. Which I was a bit bummed about at first but am now pretty happy about (more time to make money to pay for graduate school).
I have no clue about the new media lab. I didn't ask either...

Just made some room at SVA- emailed them to oficially reject the offer, which means there is one more spot available if anyone here's been on the waitlist! I hope they offer the funding they gave me to someone else...
So- I am officially going to Hunter next year! They offered me the choice of starting in the Fall semester but I opted to start in the Spring, to get some months into my NY-state residency and start getting that 50% discount ASAP.
Anyone else here accepted at Hunter?
Me! I am!
-
HDSL and jaybird I took a nap and thought some more and MAYBE you got off the wait list? I mean, they asked for a decision within two weeks... I hope that is it!!!!!
-
I received the same email stating I am waitlisted Spring 2014 but the online decision says accepted Fall 2013.
This is confusing.
I guess we'll have to wait until Monday to call the admissions office. I'm going to try not to get my hopes up.
HDSL and jaybird. This is weird. I have only gotten an email. No notification online. Makes me begin to worry about my admissions status! I'll be so bummed if they made a mistake. Let me know what you find out... Hopefully they can address it quickly...

I would agree 100%. Age doesn't matter. Schools (I imagine) choose individuals based on a whole host of criteria none of which is age.To be fair isn't the average age of an MFA candidate around 26-28? lol but yeah those of us that are 23-24 fought tooth and nail to get into a program, age shouldn't be a deterrent.
I mean, I won't lie... I have had moments where I am like, "Jennifer Lawernce is HOW old?! What.. What have I been doing with my life...?!" But, age is only a hinderence for those who see it as one.

Hello friends,
I'm a self learned Artist. I would like to pursue a degree in Art and Design. I have some doubts regarding choosing the course. I know a friend, who did his Bachelors in Engineering and did his masters in Fine arts - Art and Design. I'm also looking for the same study since I'm an Engineering Graduate. Can you ppl help me finding the universities?
Thank you
I agree with Capers. MIT. You should check out that program. CalArts has a Art and Trchnology program too. Haven't done a lot of research but MIT you should check out.

I would agree with everything PouchPotato advised. I would not contact the schools but instead focus on contacting old professors, peers and friends asking for their feedback.
I'd take sometime to get some distance from everything. To reboot. This process is exhausting. But then come back at it; you can do this.

I got wait-listed at Hunter for Spring 2014. However, they want to know within the next two weeks if I wish to remain on the list. Is it fair of me to ask where I land on that list considering I have other offers?
I'd ask. I would think they'd be understanding... You'd be passing up lots of other programs in order to wait. You're putting yourself on the line of not getting off the wait list and having to reapply when you had other offers.
Also, I might be mistaken but I think I saw that you applied to other CUNY schools? You could see if you could start at one place and transfer credits if you got into Hunter in the spring? I know that lots of places don't do transfer credits for graduate school... but if they are all in affiliation with one another you might have a better chance of working something like that out?
Just ideas...

Drawing/printmaking and works on paper

Just curious, what department did you apply through? I have a friend waiting to hear, and we're both on the edge of our seats!!!
Sorry meant to reply but something went wrong... I applied to Drawing/printmaking and works on paper

Well, I was accepted for Spring 2014... Not sure if that changes things... What I mean is-- I don't know if they notify differently for the Fall since it is sooner. I was reading that they call (I was terrified when I got an email) but they didn't.
I hope that made sense. I am just spitballing... But I wouldn't lose heart yet.

I haven't heard back. Every time my phone makes a noise or vibrates I jump three feet thinking, just maybe, I've gotten an e-mail or phone call. But alas, nothing. Not a peep. It's really very frustrating. Other schools are making offers and expecting decisions and Hunter seems to be taking their sweet time. I will say however, every time I've been contacted by them it's been on a Friday afternoon...
I know what you mean. Hunter is my #1 choice unless I die of a heart complication before.
-
For all those who have been boring holes into their phones in futile hope of making it ring...
Hunter's calendar reads: March 25-April 2-Spring RecessSo... I don't expect a response until maybe this coming Wednesday?
-
Thumbs up! Fingers crossed!

those denied by vcu painting + printmaking, did ya'll receive the invite to apply for the summer studio program? Additionally, has anyone on the forum gone through this/have any insight into it?
I did. ...And I'll admit I am a little peeved... What I got wasn't even their "official" rejection letter but a plug for their summer program. I think it is a form letter that they send... I could go on... But I will refrain.
-
Okay, wait till Wednesday, but if you are hesitant to email because you think it might be pushy/out of line/rude don't. There is nothing wrong with writing and seeing if they could PDF your notification. You have, I think, a perfectly logical explaination: you live in Asia and that you are concerned about the time frame in which a letter would get to you via snail mail.
Good luck! Don't be scared to ask, you paid an application fee, you therefore, in my mind, paid to receive a response regardless the outcome.
-
I didn't apply to SVA... So take from this what you will... but from what I have gleaned browsing through this forum is that those who did apply have gotten a response. I would email their addmissions. Better yet. Call.
-
Hunter said on 3/17 "...we are hoping a week from Wednesday. But it is in the middle of our spring break so it might be 2 or 3 weeks..."
I think that this estimate applied to every department.

Been scanning this post a bit... Trying to think of a good response. But in the end I am just going to wing it...
First off, by and large, I really think that people are genuine, thoughtful and happy for their peers achievements.
Group shows are designed to exhibit commonalities (or polarities) in artists' work. They are curated in a very purposeful manner.
The conversations and investments we all make in work is the reason that institutions and universities exist regardless of the concentration. Of course there is competition, there is always that; but I'm not going to go all Tanya Harding on you. Competition is not always negative. We've just come to associate it with a certain type of cut throat Capitalism.
So looking at your site I would suggest you focus on elaborating on your statement of purpose. I found the first paragraph to be vague.
Questions to consider:
Why do certain experiences become stale? How do they become that way? Where does satisfaction begin and end?
Aesthetic intuition. I would like to hear more on that. What makes it yours? I think you might be best served here if you wrote freely on what exactly began a specific work and how you got from stroke A to Stroke X, Y and Z.
What artists influence your work? What artists or specific works do you like? Which do you not? I see you studied art history so I know you must think about this. Your work also references many styles and movements in art history. Why? And you have a BFA so you've been asked to think critically about your process and mark making. You are having a much deeper conversation than your statement is leading the reader and viewer to believe.
I believe thinking and perhaps including elements of this in your personal statement will help you inform viewers to have a richer and deeper appreciation of your work.
I hope this helps.
