  1. Congrats!! So happy to hear that!
  2. I have not, but at the hospital I work at, when people start a job there they have to do two mandatory PPDs just to make sure there isn't a false positive (is what they told me anyway). Also, I'm pretty sure that a positive reaction doesn't mean you have TB, just that you've been exposed to it somehow. I wouldn't worry about it until your x-rays come back, especially if your doctor doesn't seem worried.
  3. I thought I had seen this somewhere...but I realized it was in the Germany ETA page from IIE. "Candidates at all degree levels will be considered. Candidates should be well-rounded, articulate individuals with the skills and motivation needed to assist in teaching American studies, including English language, to German students at all pre-university levels. These grants are especially suited for students of German (e.g., German studies and history). Applicants from other academic fields will be considered if they have adequate German proficiency. Strong preference will be given to applicants younger than 29." I did check the Estonia page and it didn't say anything specific like that. It definitely seems wrong to deny you a grant because of your age, as you are obviously deserving. And if they were going to do that, they should have mentioned that somewhere in your literature beforehand. But I guess their reasoning is probably that they want this experience to help open young minds so that they can spread that knowledge and utilize it in their further development. I don't necessarily agree, because certainly you can continue developing past age 29, and I think there are definitely people out there like you who could seriously benefit from and bring amazing qualities to the table here, but if they were being truly discriminatory about it they wouldn't have selected you as an alternate. I think that if you and other applicants all presented amazing projects, in the absence of any other factors to use to decide, age might be why they decided to give someone else priority, as opposed to using it as a reason for demoting you in particular. If that makes sense. All you can do is try. If they don't appreciate your worth you just need to find a program that will.
  4. Definitely for Germany, and I think for a lot of countries, like CrystalDee mentioned, there is a health form (not required until after you are accepted, so no need to notify them beforehand if that's what you mean). It requires a pretty comprehensive medical history, and I think medications and the like as well (I don't really take meds for anything so I can't remember exactly but I'm pretty sure that was on there). But basically you sit down with your doctor and go through all of the questions and then they say whether or not they think you're "fit" for whatever you would be doing. So if you say it is well managed I wouldn't worry about it too much. I think in your case the only reasons why it would be an issue would be if you were planning to apply to someplace where you might not have access to your meds if you needed them (though I think most people are planning to bring a lot of refills with them), or if your program would place you under conditions that might exacerbate your OCD. I can't say what exactly are grounds for them to deny you the grant, but I doubt a well-managed mild disorder would qualify. Good luck!!!
  5. So sorry to you guys who didn't get Switzerland...but at least now you know and can (finally) move on with decisions for the coming year I guess? And congrats to those who got it of course!! For those of you who are ETAs, join the FB page https://www.facebook.com/groups/123328967859396/. Everyone is so nice, it seems like a lot of people are willing to host others if they wanted to visit the other one's country. Good deal!
  6. I just called them and did it. I would much rather not have to pay out of pocket and have to deal with a reimbursement process. There is a $25 fee (plus any potential change in flight fare) for switching your flight later since you have to do a dummy date, but since I found a flight that was under the travel allowance I was like that's fine with me...and the sooner you change it the more flexibility you have with finding a new travel date that doesn't go above your original booking. I will be in Nordrhein-Westfalen! This actually made my decision to book a flight easier...I just decided to book a flight for the end of August into Cologne...and if I don't have a place to live or if my city ends up being a bit farther away from there I can always just hang around for a couple days until orientation if need be.
  7. Yea that's nuts... I found out my placement today too So excited! I even booked my flight just to get it over with...and I'll just have to make plans around that rather than trying to wait for other things to plan my flight around...because every day I get more and more worried about going over the price (a few weeks ago the tickets were sooo much cheaper that I literally didn't care about it, but as of recently I checked and they were almost twice as expensive---craaazy.)
  8. Aww. I agree, today is a blah day. But maybe tomorrow will be better? You never know!
  9. You could also hope that someone who was offered a grant commits a felony or doesn't graduate... But I suppose hoping for money is probably a nicer thing to do...
  10. Totally agree (People wanting to come to Germany will be in so much luck...there are so many places/couches to choose from!)
  11. Wow, so glad to see Fulbright is making its way right along. Congrats to those selected! Yay for shaky banana hands! Condolences to those not selected and alternates--you will find your way. Don't give up And for you poor poor folks who are still waiting...we are all pulling for you!
  12. Wow, one busy day and look at everything I missed! So sorry to hear all of the harsh choices that Fulbright decided to make They will definitely be missing out on some wonderful people. But congratulations to everyone who heard positively!
  13. Aw. Maybe because they waited for so long to tell you there will be lots of people who had to make other plans and will bequeath their grants to you (that's right, I said grants). That's one potential benefit of a long wait, eh? Sending good thoughts your way.
  14. I went home for a weekend (about a 5 hour drive, not too bad but a significant trip) for Easter and had been really hoping to find out before going home and seeing all of my family. Would have been nice to be able to tell everyone together instead of answering theoretical questions all weekend and then having to call everyone individually after finding out. Alas, I heard about a day and a half after I left home. Thus, if there is a particular time you really really would like to have the information by...you will probably hear like 2 days later. Which at least means you'll be hearing soon! If my totally flawed logic works for you
