  1. Congrats to everyone that got great news and to those who were waitlisted, it's not over. Anyone willing to claim the UC Santa Barbara acceptance posted?
  2. Feel better goldie! Also, congrats to people that have gotten news! I somehow managed to stay away from here this weekend. Hopefully, we'll all start hearing something soon!
  3. Yes. Television, exercise, and my cat are my distractions. I only wish Community was airing new episodes.
  4. No problem! I just rewatched the Christmas special tonight and it totally holds up. I can't wait for season three!
  5. Congrats teachgrad! It's got to feel great having an acceptance so early! Also, congrats crazedandinfused! superfluouso, that's awesome about Emory. Today, was a big news day. Hopefully we'll all start getting great news soon too!
  6. Could not agree more! It's sooooo good! crater, I'm guessing you've seen this?
  7. Congrats crater21! I'm sure you did great. A little off topic, but I started running again (Couch to 5k plan) after taking the holidays off (like way off). It has done wonders in terms of my anxiety this week. I highly recommend it. p.s. goldie is your avatar Lady Mary Crawley? I love Downton!
  8. Don't think this has been mentioned, but Georgia State has some funded MAs through their history department.
  9. That's what I'm hoping! And just to add my piece, I don't have a puppy, but I do have a very supportive cat. Between her and watching a ton of tv in my freetime, I'm able to escape my anxiety.
  10. Hey everyone! I've been lurking on this thread for months, but decided to finally make it official. To be honest, I have moments where I literally feel sick to my stomach (probably nerves) over this whole process. Hopefully, we'll all get good news. Best of luck to everyone and congrats to those who've already started getting news! It certainly is an exciting time.
  11. Thanks for your quick response! I managed to get a professor to write the letters. They were pretty horrified when I told them the whole story. So at least for now, crisis averted.
  12. So I'm applying to 11 history MA and PhD programs (a lot I know) and my first deadline (UCSB) was December 5. Since then six more school's deadlines have passed. My first two recommenders have done all their letters with plenty of time to spare. But my third recommender still hasn't. I sent her multiple reminder emails leading up to each deadline. On December 12, she promised to do them that night. She didn't and so I continued to email her over the holidays. Finally on January 2, she responded to my emails, apologizing profusely for not responding sooner. She gave me her cell phone, home phone and office number and told me she would do them ASAP when she got into her office the next day. To make a long story short, she didn't submit any. I've called each number multiple times and left 10+ voicemails and have yet to hear from her. I've spoken with the Graduate Program Assistant at UCSB and was told that my application is in the queue to be reviewed, but to "Please have Dr. XXXXX send it in as soon as possible. The first round of decisions will be made soon but, there is still time if it can be submitted in the next few days." I've started emailing other professors, but the problem I'm running into is that I took a lot of my major courses with two of the same professors, both of whom are already recommenders. At this point does it matter who writes it? Could I ask a professor from a non-major elective to write? I'm tempted to ask my supervisor from an internship I had my senior year, just because I know they would do it tonight. Please help. I'm completely distraught over the entire thing. I've spend hundreds of dollars on these applications and as of right now, I'm worried it could all be a waste if I don't get a third letter.
  13. Thank you so much for all the feedback and sorry it's taken me so long to get back to you guys... family stuff. I'm mainly interested more American history, probably in the twentieth century, but I would do what most of you have suggested and have the majority of my work related to questions of gender. Beyond that things get a little fuzzy for me. I'm thinking I will take Sparky's advice and focus more on MA programs, because of that very issue. I mean, is it even enough that I know that I want to do twentieth century American history, or is it necessary that I be even more specific beyond that? I know that I'm interested in legal history as well as some political history, leaning more towards the later half of the century. I guess I get tripped up when looking at programs' websites and they encourage you to apply right out of undergrad, saying you would get all the training of a master's program en route to a PhD. Is what I have enough or should I stick to MA programs. I'm aware that I'm competing with applicants who have a much more developed idea of what they want to study, especially if they've already completed their MA.
