MystiqueSLP, do you mind sharing with whom you sent your letter to NYU declining to? I will be doing this tomorrow, as I got into my first choice school off the wait list!! I would appreciate it, thank you! -
I am declining my spot at NYU, as I got off the wait list at my own first choice school. I really hope this gets one of you in, especially since I just got off the wait list and know how amazing it feels!

2013 SLP Admissions Thread!
orangeSLP replied to midnight's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
Just wanted to respond to the pre-requisites while teaching issue. This was my second year applying too. In hopes of beefing up my application, I took prerequisites during the year while teaching. I took online courses at Eastern New Mexico University, where they offer 8 week and 16 week options. I found taking 2 courses each semester, each 8 weeks, allowed me to only take one course at a time, while still fulfilling 6 credits per semester. This worked for me because I was worried about taking more than one online course at a time while working...and I did get into my first choice school this year!! Although I do think that getting your name in the door at UGA will help, it is a big risk to take considering the expenses. I considered taking courses at my first choice school on campus as well, but I could not believe how huge of a difference in cost the online prerequisite courses were from the on campus ones. Good luck in the re- application process! -
Thank you for sharing this information! On this note, UGH- I just got off the phone with the Bouve College contact and she said that "the remainder of the applicants should be hearing shortly, as letters were placed in the mail today." This feels like bad news to me, as I was notified via postal service last year, and it looks as though anyone wait-listed or accepted was notified on the website. Seems cruel to me to have made us wait this long if everyone waiting is really getting rejected.

To me, the NYU reputation seems to be negative due to the cost alone. I haven't heard/seen on this website anything specific about why the program is not great besides "tuition is absurd." I do think that if you have been accepted into more than one program, it is easy to look at the tuition at NYU comparably to other schools and wonder if you're getting THAT much better of an education for the money you are paying. However, those of us who have only been accepted here are in a different position, weighing wether the money will be manageable to pay off, or if it is simply too much to feel comfortable with. I truly think that the talk of bad reputation is solely due to the cost of the program after visiting yesterday. To me, it seemed like a great program, just a matter of whether or not you personally feel OK with paying it off.

I agree with EVERYTHING mystiqueSLP says. I was very impressed with the whole event.

*cannot say a bad thing about my educational experience there. I only took one CSD course there but that course is what introduced me to this field and sparked my interest in becoming an SLP. I would be happy to answer any questions about the school!

Although I was not a CSD major at Syracuse, I did attend there for my undergraduate degree and it truly was a wonderful experience. I LOVED attending syracuse and cann

Definitely excited about NYU! Good to hear you agree! And congrats hopefulslp88, from one re-applicant to another! It takes a lot to go through this process again, and I am so happy for you that the hard work and commitment to this field has paid off for you too. It just goes to show, if you really want something you have to do everything possible to make it happen! -

I am still waiting for a few more results (ugh) but yes, if I am not accepted elsewhere I will definitely be attending in the fall. Which is not to say I am not concerned about the tuition! However, I have spent so much time, money, effort, stress etc during this process including last year that there is no way I see myself turning down this offer to try yet again. Although I am very worried about the cost of NYU, I do think it will be an amazing experience, and I am confident I will (someday) be able to pay off my many many loans! I've never visited, so I am excited to go on Thursday! -
I too am still waiting to hear from NU. This is my second year applying so I am hoping that this year brings better news than last year! I have had no change in my application since applying, which makes me very nervous since the portal looks the same as it did last year when I was rejected...hoping that there's still a chance!

New to posting on here, but I have been following along for awhile now! I felt the need to finally post as these last weeks of waiting creep by...I too will be attending NYU's event on Thursday! This is my second year applying to SLP programs (last year only a few, this year I have greatly increased my amount and diversity of schools) but NYU is my only acceptance thus far. Just happy to know I will definitely be starting a program in the Fall!
