Hi there! Well, I got acception for both of them (NYU-Poly and Columbia) for PhD in Civil Engineering. But my situation is different cause I got a brazilian scholarship that will cover all the costs (tuitions, fees,...) and will give me a monthly stipend to live there during all my PhD program. So, I decided for Columbia! Anyway, I understand your situation (in general, Columbia is a better school than NYU-Poly) but if you have to go for NYU-Poly, don't be afraid cause I know it's also a really good school and you will get some great opportunities from there too! Does anyone know about Civil Engineering at Columbia and NYU-Poly? Is Columbia program much better than NYU-Poly?

I accepted the PhD at Columbia! I was already in contact with a teacher from there and my fiance lives in NY! These are the 2 reasons why I will go to Columbia. Did you get admit? If so, did you accept the offer?

I also heard they have a good network with the industry. It may not be in the top 15 for Civil Engineering, but it's in the top 15 for the best universitites in the world and top 5 in the US! I'm sure that any industry in NYC would be interested in any student from Columbia. =)

If you dont mind me asking, where did you get these information about the non competitive admission and job placement?
