  1. Hmm... that does make me a bit more hopeful... good luck to all!
  2. Does the interview thing apply to just CS, or EECS as well?
  3. Look at the overall trend of decisions from last year, it followed a similar pattern. I doubt we'll get in at this point. Do you have any reasoning other than the low number of acceptances? Did you previously have an interview? (cause I haven't :/) But again, I hope I'm wrong.
  4. I say so because it seems like they interviewed everyone they wanted. I hope I'm wrong.
  5. Rejects I'm assuming?
  6. Anyone hear anything yet? Should I be worried that it's significantly later than when I received my Mechanical Engineering decision?
  7. Do you know when letters will be sent out?
  8. If I haven't heard for an interview is all hope lost?
  9. Hi y'all, I'm just wondering, it seems like schools either interview people in one field, or don't in another. Why is this, and which fields go which ways?
  10. I will be applying to grad schools come this fall, and I'm starting to think about the whole process. I'm wondering who I should ask for my letters. How advisable is it to ask for letters from: People I've worked with during summer internships/REUs Professor I've done research with, but who haven't had much input on the project in about a year. This started off as a research project sophmore year, this year he really isn't around much. Our research project now is kind of like a club in that its mostly student run. Professor I TAed for and took a class with sophomore year, but haven't had much academic interaction with otherwise. I know him well in a social context however. Professor I took a few classes with freshman and sophomore year and with whom I am currently pursuing an independent project, in addition to another student (we meet weekly to go over our progress, and he provides input and suggestions). And as a general question, is it common for UG research advisors to not meet very often with their students (~1/2 - 1 hours weekly)? Or am I worrying about nothing? Thanks!
  11. Hi all, I'm new to this forum. I'm beginning to seriously consider grad school, and I'm looking for some words of wisdom. A little about me. I just completed my sophomore year at a small engineering college. I am majoring in Electrical and Computer Engineering (overall GPA: ~3.65, major GPA probably somewhat higher). I've held summer internships/REUs for the past two years, and will be participating in Caltech's SURF program this summer. I TAed a freshmen class this past year, and will continue TAing, either for the same class or a different one. I've participated in two small semester long research projects (unrelated to each other). I haven't quite narrowed down my focus just yet, but I'm interested in artificial intelligence, robotics, learning, and generally things along that alley. I've started to look at particular schools. I really like Caltech's CNS program, and am interested a few others. My questions are pretty general. Do I stand a shot at top notch programs like Caltech's or MIT's (I realize that at some level it's rolling dice, but I'm wondering whether or not it's completely unreasonable for me to gain acceptance)? What kinds of things are important/not important to grad schools (I've heard research is big, varying opinions on GPA)? Anything else I should know moving forward? Thank you for any and all advice! purplesmoke
