Thanks! I just added you.

I am also curious about this. I received notice of my award on April 13th (SSA) and am still waiting.
-
They have information about driving to PDO in the Travel Arrangements link on the Fulbright PDO website, although it is not clear if they reimburse for parking. It might be worth asking the contact that they provide in the email. I would be curious to know myself. Please share if you find out!

This sounds like a good idea. Does anybody know how to set it up?

Have any other SSA primary candidates received the grant authorization document? It has been 11 days since I received the notification email but still no grant authorization document so I was just wondering if this was common or if I need to follow up with somebody. Thanks!

I got a research grant for Mozambique! I'll be doing qualitative research with a local LGBT organization on 'older' men who have sex with men. Photogeographic and other multiple-time applicants: this was my 4th time as a Fulbright finalist and I am almost 35 (currently a PhD student so the out of school timeline did not apply) and a father of 2 young children so I don't think you should ever rule out submitting another application (to Fulbright or any other fellowship) if you come up a project that you are interested in and the in-country support to carry it out. Swazibound: I was a Peace Corps volunteer in Swaziland (Lubombo). Where will you be based? Lalabirds001: any word on your Moz application? Best of luck to everybody still waiting!

Hi Photogeographic, I am a SSA applicant. SSA applicants found out on April 21st last year and on April 15th the year before that. Notifications seems to be coming out a little bit earlier this year, though, so fingers crossed that we don't have to wait that long.

Congratulations!

Hello fellow SSA applicants, I was placed as an alternate for a Full Research Grant to South Africa. I was also surprised that the board went quiet. I think everybody is holding their breath for MozartGirl. I hope she got it... and congratulations to all the others out there who did too!

Hello SSA applicants. I called Jermaine and he said that he didn't have any further news thus far today but he reiterated that he's still waiting on the state department. He said he hopes to receive the final selections by the end of this week, but it could also be by the end of the next week. He then said he hopes to let us know by the end of this month, at the absolute latest. He also said that this is what he hopes and that he has no idea for sure. So, it doesn't sound like we will hear back right away but it could be soon? I am sure we are all hoping for sooner rather than later...

Maybe another one of us can call Jermaine tomorrow and whatever he tells us then should hopefully sort it out? I can reach out to him again, unless another SSA applicant out there hasn't already reached out to him yet and wants to give it a try.... let us know. Jermaine has told me previously that he is able to notify applicants within 24 hours of receiving the final selections.

Sounds great. Thanks. I hope we find out soon!

Maliyazi, thanks for reaching out and sharing what you learned. I think calling Jermaine on Friday and finding out if he has any news is a great idea! I emailed him last year on April 10th and he got back to me that we should be finding out the following week, which we did on April 15th. While it was still anxiety-filled, it was nice to have an idea when to expect it. Calling is a good idea too since they probably tend to share a bit more than they do through email. I couldn't wait and emailed him last week even though I knew it was too early and I should have been more patient (all he said was that based on previous years, his sense is that we will know by the end of the month), so I don't want to reach out to him again for fear of being annoying. Anybody else who wants to take one for the team and find out, though, please share what you learn with us!

It's great to see the SSA folks coming out of the woodwork! My proposed project is to conduct research on substance use and HIV risk among black South African MSM. I emailed the SSA program officer at Fulbright on Thursday to ask him when he thought notifications might go out this year. He said that his sense is that we will know by the end of the month. When I emailed him last year on April 10th (I was a finalist but ultimately not selected), he said that he was expecting them by the middle of next week. We then found out on the 15th. Based on that, my guess is that we are still a couple weeks away. It probably wouldn't hurt if one of us reached out to him again near the end of next week to see if he has more information at that point. I am sure we are all dying to find out!

Hello Mozartgirl53 and Maliyazi, I am also a recommended applicant for Sub-Saharan Africa for a research grant to South Africa. Nice to meet you both. I also am getting increasingly anxious to find out about the final decision. Has anybody emailed Jermaine Jones (the Program Manager for Sub-Saharan) to ask when he expects notifications to go out this year? They are usually pretty guarded about that information, but he might at least let us know if it will be in the next week or so. Good luck with your applications!
