  1. I applied to Fulbright Spain two years ago... I felt like I was a competitive candidate. Solid language skills, application/experiences, GPA, but maybe my references were not that great. I volunteered in a university in Costa Rica and a professor there wrote it for me, but her English skills were a little weak....also a boss from a summer job teaching... since she hadn't known me for that long it might've been weak. Anyways, I made it to the second round (where you are accepted and then sent to Spain for further review, but about half these people are cut). So I guess I got to the bottom 26-30% but then was cut. I am in a similar boat considering applying- although I have access to better teaching references now and have 2 full years of solid teaching experience (AmeriCorps and student teaching). The application was so much work I'm not sure if I want to go through the struggle just to get cut again. I may set my sights more on South Korea or a program in Thailand through my university where I have much better odds. I guess the odds now are just 13% of people will get accepted to the Spain program. If you think you are a really solid candidate, I think it's worth a try- but if there are other parts of the Spanish speaking world you wouldn't mind going to that might be a good bet!
  2. HI! First of all, I am sorry I accidentally "disliked" your post in an attempt to reply to this, so I am going to try to undo that in a second. Anyways. That sounds like a tough dilemma ! Has Andorra always been a place you've dreamed about going to? Staying in Spain sounds like a great opportunity as well. It depends on what you want out of your next year--do you want a new, challenging experience and to live in a new place? Or do you want to continue a great experience you've already been having? Since your already abroad, if I was in your place, I'd probably stay in Spain another year--but it really depends on what you want out of your next year. I might be biased because I applied to ETA Spain and did not get it. I was wondering, how did you land your teaching job in Spain? I heard its difficult to get a work visa there and I kind of ruled it out and am now looking at Asian countries to teach in--but if you have any tips or would like to tell me about your experience I'd love to hear it
  3. Thank you! I'm sorry to hear about your news too... what do you think you will do instead?
  4. Rejected for Fulbright ETA Spain . Was an at-large candidate with a lot of teaching experience and did very well in school... I guess it wasn't meant to be. Anyone know of any other teaching opportunities in Spain? I already know of the auxiliary program...but I steered clear of it because of some horror stories about not getting paid. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated and congrats to all of you going abroad!
