  1. I just received my letter today. I was awarded a category B for 2 years with a score of 12.5. After many attempts at a Tri-Council grant, which all resulted in rejection, I am super excited and relieved that I finally succeeded! Congrats to everyone else who received a SSHRC, sorry to everyone who did not, and best of luck to those who can apply again next year.
  2. i had totally forgot about my application until a colleague of mine asked me this week if I had heard anything yet... Just the thought of a letter from SSHRC makes me feel queasy.
  3. Basically I hit a wall when it comes to my academic career and funding. As a doctoral student working in the social studies of medicine using qualitative methods, I do not have the same level of publications as engineering and medical science students due to different publication and authorship models. I havent had the same sort of access to laboratories and collaborative research programmes that are the norm in medicine. Changes in funding models in Canada require that I apply for funding through CIHR or Provincial health-based funding agencies rather than social science funding agencies. I get evaluated well on my academic track record and research design but get murdered when it comes to my lack of publications, low number of conference presentations, and posters. In my field, these are generally single authored and reserved for the period after data collection in the doctorate. Maybe I'm just making excuses for myself here. Has anyone else working on the social and cultural sides of medicine received a doctoral research grant? Anyone have any strategies for me to get out of this funding mess? Obviously I need to start publishing my way out of this.
  4. My results are still unaccessible. Here is the latest news from Martin Lépine. Good morning, The 2012 Doctoral Research Awards competition decisions were released on April 15, 2012. Please note, however, that due to server communication issues, some candidates may not have access to their results at this time. The issue has been resolved and all decisions will be viewable by end of day today. You will also be receiving an email from ResearchNet advising you that results are available. Thank you / Merci
