  1. INTJ here.  I've taken this several times now, and aside from a brief period during which I was INFJ, I've always been INTJ.  I was a bit worried about the introversion too, before applying to grad school, but more for how others would perceive me than for my ability to do the job and work with people.  I think the typical 1 on 1 nature of SLP works well for introverts, while still working just fine for extroverts too.

  2. Oh man, reading all your qualifications is really discouraging! ;) But at the same time I am so thrilled to see so many qualified, intelligent individuals going into such a wonderful field! I can't wait to be able to call many of you my professional peers. I only applied to one program, University of Oregon. I am pretty limited to just this location due to my husband business. My GPA and LoR are AWESOME but my GRE really isnt very good. Wish me LUCK!

I'm in the same boat with only applying to one school.  I had interview with them via Skype yesterday, so now I just wait and see if they admit me or not.  :/

  3. I got an interview email, but I don't know if I can make it-it's 1,000 miles away! (Grand Valley State University)

Also, I saw people posting acceptances from one of my schools, but I haven't heard anything yet. Is that good news or bad news? (It's Wayne State, by the way)

Is it possible to do a Skype interview?

And re: Wayne State, have you looked back at past years to see if they typically send out all acceptances at the same time?  Do they have a typical pattern?  That can let you know how likely it is that an acceptance is still coming your way.

    Good luck!

  4. Wow, Green Dino, I watched the TED talk--that was great!!!  It had me tearing up at the end, too.  That's such great info for me to have at my disposal, since I feel one of my biggest weaknesses is how shy I am.  I'm definitely going to practice some power poses before I make the Skype call tomorrow!

  5. UGH. I think I have the best interview fml story yet.

First...I am sitting here waiting for my host to come onto Skype and I decide to check my phone. Awaiting in my inbox is a rejection email from the University of Iowa. I mean, I knew this was coming but NICE TIMING! lol.

Then, as soon as I (nervously ) log in and the interview begins, my dogs see something outside and start barking madly. I excuse myself to go and tell them to kindly shut it. As soon as I sit back down, my cochlear implant battery DIES!!!!!! Why I didn't think to check this before, don't ask me.

I think overall it went pretty well, until they asked me about my GPA, which is "lower than the rest of my application would indicate" and I kind of stumbled. I gave a generic answer that I wasn't as focused as I should have been in my first and second year but really amped up my act in my 3rd and 4th year.

I guess there is nothing to do but laugh and hope for other interviews/acceptances, right?  :P Thanks, bratty dogs/dead battery.

Oh how frustrating!!  Yeah, I'm worried my 3 year old son will need something or hurt himself or who knows what, so I'm sending him out on a walk with Daddy so I'll have to the house to myself.  One of the most predictable things about kids and pets is their unpredictability, right?  I hope it works out ok.  Those don't sound like they should be deal breakers, though (right??).

  6. I have a Skype interview with the (only!) school I applied to, tomorrow morning.  I wish it could be in person because worrying about the technology failing or skipping is making me nervous, not to mention the eye contact issue with Skype.  On the other hand, I'm interviewing, which is a really good sign!  But still...I can't stop reading the forums and admissions pages looking for signs of others' experiences with this university.  I think if I was going to find something, I probably would have found it the first 100 times or so...

  7. Ugh!  I'm starting to get so anxious!  Reading this thread is making it worse!  haha  Unfortunately for me, I could only apply to ONE local university (I live in Hawaii and can't relocate right now and it's the only school on my island with the program).  UH Manoa only accepts 12-15 applicants out of 100-150, which means it's kind of a crapshoot.  My stats are higher than their average admit, but I don't really have much (or any) relevant experience aside from basic childcare stuff, so my grades and GRE scores are all I have going for me.  And hopefully the LORs and the SOP.  We'll see........  When I've looked before, some people have found out as early as early to mid February for a Feb 1 deadline, so some of us could be finding out really soon! (Please don't drag it out 'til May..........)

  8. Hi All!

I'm excited to finally be on one of these forums about the application process!  I'm actually taking the GRE tomorrow (eek!), which is what prompted me to come on here.  I've been thinking about grad school non-stop!  I'm nervous about the grad school applications because I've been a stay at home mom for the last 7 1/2 years and I have no relevant work or volunteer experience.  :/  My undergrad GPA is 3.54 in Linguistics (>3.8 in the major) and so far my pre-req GPA in speech pathology is a 4.0.  I can only apply to one grad school this year, where I live with my family, which makes me extra nervous, since so much of admissions is a crapshoot.  But I can only do my best and then see how it all plays out I guess!

  9. I'm applying later this year to University of Hawaii at Manoa and currently taking all of the pre-reqs (online, through Utah State).  One of the pre-reqs UH Manoa requires is an Intro to Communication Disorders class, which, at Utah State is COMD 2600, but they don't offer it online.  Of the few other universities with online classes I've looked at, none seem to offer this intro class.  Does anyone know of one?  Did the rest of you have to take one?  It seems to be distinct from any anatomy, audiology, language development stuff and is just kind of an overview class.

    Thanks!
