Sinking feeling develops as I read my ratings sheet, seeing "uploaded wrong file" and "missing Research Plan." I look at my submitted application, and my personal statement is there in place of my research plan. On a brighter note, my broader impacts were both 'Excellent.' This sucks though. It's the last year I can apply. Is there any recourse? I thought I printed out my application when I submitted it, but it doesn't look that way. If it was a technical error, this must have happened to some other people too, so I'm just putting it out there in case anyone else has a similar story. Otherwise, it just means I'm a dumbass.

Same for me. I'm glad to see this board isn't dead! My advisor is happy though, he didn't approve of the coursework requirement...

I did! Did everyone else get a copy of the annual doe magazine thing? I think it's cool that they have an annual short essay contest for writing to a non-science audience.

I haven't received an email either (affirmative or negative). I'm thinking it may have something to do with my "Incomplete" status (if you recall from the first post on this thread). They did tell me the "incomplete" was a mistake, but maybe their script missed me because of it. Is your status incomplete also?

Isn't it funny how in high school (mine was public), which is free, we usually have teachers that are fully qualified to teach us the topics they are teaching. They are required to have teaching certifications, and are likely to have degrees in the class they teach. At a college or university, which is not free, we usually are taught most of the things we learn from Graduate Student Instructors, which essentially consists of readers of this forum. We are not qualified to teach, we have no teaching certifications, and sometimes we've never taken the classes we are teaching!

We don't, officially, but I remember that being how it went down last year. I could be wrong.

I didn't get it last year (not that I was expecting it...) and I remember not getting a notification. I'm not sure whether or not the winners get an email, though I would expect them to.

I think we'll hear back tonight at around midnight Eastern time (9PM pacific for me). Last year, I believe that was when the list was posted online.

They have stats in the FAQ section, I believe, but NDSEG is not as broad as NSF. They have fewer fellowships to give, and the proposal should be geared towards research the US military is interested in (these research topics are posted on the research department websites for each branch of the military). That said, a lot of folks (including me last year) just send in their NSF proposal and think that it's OK. It's not. I think overall the percentages are pretty low (about the same as NSF), but I don't know the percentages for people who actually have research the military is interested in.

I'm a UCSD PhD and I get 1750 a month, and manage pretty well, and even get to put away $300 a month for savings. Granted, I live with a roommate and we cook most of the time. That said, I have a classmate living on the same stipend supporting a stay-at-home wife and young child.

OK! I called the folks at ASEE, and they said that their overall status page is not working. Hopefully that means that my application, which showed complete in January, is still complete. =)

This is the OP... I remember them posting on time last year, definitely before NSF, but NSF was late last year, I think around April 8th. Thanks menachem, I gave them a call and left a message, but haven't heard back. I emailed them a couple nights ago when I discovered the error, and still haven't heard back. They must be swamped in emails. I'll try again tomorrow and let you guys know!
