  1. Thank you for the responses. My primary goal is to be a counselor at a college/university but realize that a MA will keep me somewhat limited in terms of job opportunities. A MSW does sound like the smart path to go down for more job opportunities and the fact that it does fulfill the educational requirements for educational counseling. What do you all think? Jenste- why would a MSW be better if I do not want to pursue a doctorate? Do you think there are less doctorate programs available to those that hold a MSW? Thanks everyone!
  2. Master's in Counseling Education or Master's in social work? I understand there is a wide variety of areas I can go into with social work but the 2-4 years it takes to get licensed does not sound nice at all. Many I have talked to have found little opportunity for supervision and can only find very low paying positions coming out of the program. Any thoughts/ pointers?
  3. I'm having difficulty making a decision between San Jose State MA in Counseling/Student Personnel with the option for PPS Credential OR Cal Poly SLO MA in Counseling in Higher Education. Cal Poly's program specializes in higher ed/ student affairs and students are part of a cohort. San Jose's program isn't cohort based but offers the PPS Credential in addition to the Masters. Cal Poly is on the quarter system, SJSU is on semester system. My goal is to be a community college counselor and possibly at the university level. At this point I am pretty sure I do not want to get into k-12 counseling but it would be ideal to pursue the PPS credential as a back-up. At the same time if k-12 isn't my primary goal, it may be a waste of time to pursue the credential Anyone have any thoughts and/or suggestions? Please?!
  4. What are some advantages and disadvantages to a non-cohort graduate program?
  5. I'm trying to decide between a masters program in counseling and guidance with a higher education specilization at Cal Poly SLO or counseling and student personnel (includes PPS Credential and LPCC) at San Jose State. Any thoughts on the matter?
