  1. Ahh well thank you for the words of encouragement! Tulane is my number 1 choice so it's both exciting and nerve wrecking at the same time! After my five service trips there I've completely fallen in love with the city and the Lower 9th Ward where we do our work! After the phone call I went to the bar and got a few beers for the nerves! lol
  2. Called her today and she picked up. She said my file was actually on her desk at the moment and a decision had been made and I should be receiving a letter within the next week. That kind of scares me because I feel like if I had been accepted she might have just told me? But at least a decision is coming soon.
  3. I called them and got a secretary who put me through to Gail Brown for whom I left a voicemail. This was two thursdays ago. So maybe they just had a huge influx of calls? I'm not sure.
  4. Well I know that Tulane does rolling admissions so that's the reason you found out earlier. The deadline for the application isn't technically until March 31st. I submitted my application Feb 1, but like you had LOR writers drag on so it wasn't completed until February 23rd. So it's been a little over 3 weeks since I submitted it. I gave them a call before I went down there for a service trip over spring break and left a voicemail for the person in charge of admissions but she never called back.
  5. Congrats to you cuisinequeen7. I admit the wait to hear is getting pretty nerve-wrecking but exciting nonetheless. Guess I'll just have to wait a little bit longer.
  6. Hey Guys, I've already seen that one person on these forums has gotten into Tulane's School of Social Work for the MSW. I know they do rolling admissions. It's been a little over 3 weeks since I submitted my application. Has anyone else heard back from Tulane? And if so what was the time frame after your application was submitted? Thanks! -Maverick
  7. I see Student Certification, Transcript With Degree Posted, and Over Loan Limit. The last one is probably due to the heavy student loan burden that I have. But it makes me feel positive to see more things being added to the to do list!
  8. So I just checked my application status today and while it's still classified as "referred to grad department" there have been 3 new notices that have popped up on my "To Do List" that all deal with financial stuff and final transcripts. So maybe that's a good sign?!
  9. I think it really depends on where you want to go. One of the things about Tulane that really has be interested is the disaster relief certificate and the courses catered toward that. Granted I did not apply to any Ivy league schools. BUT I can say, I go on a service trip to new orleans 4 times a year and have throughout my undergrad career and it really is an amazing place. It's become my favorite place in the country. Location wise I would say New Orleans. But that's just me! I think it's like a lot of people said, prestige matters little in the field of social work.
  10. I also applied to Tulane, Loyola-Chicago, BU, UT-San Antonio, and George Mason University. How about yourself? I'm really hoping I'm not waiting until mid April because they said they would start sending out acceptance/rejection letters in the first week of March. Tulane and SJSU are my top 2 choices. They may not necessarily be the best programs but the locations of both those schools are just amazing and those are the areas I would want to be. I basically applied to all of my schools based on location, not necessarily program ranking. Where else did you apply?
  11. Sup Guys, Just trying to find out if anybody else on here has applied to San Jose State's MSW program for this fall? I just checked my application status today and it changed from "complete" to "referred to grad department" which I'm assuming means I've gotten into the school itself but now I have to get into the MSW program. So that's kind of exciting and nerve wrecking at the same time! Hope to hear from some of you! -Maverick
  12. Thanks a bunch Bren! That helps a lot! Any other input is welcome as well!
  13. Hey everybody! I wasn't sure what section to post this in since there are two subforums for psychology and sociology, so I figured I'd put it in psychology since that's my main area of focus. This is my first post, so thanks for the welcome to the community. I really had no idea this place existed! So first, a little bit about myself. I am a senior at Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI. I am a double major in psychology and sociology. My cumulative GPA is at a 3.0. My psych GPA is at around a 2.4 and my sociology GPA is at around a 3.7. I have strong extracurriculars as I am a brother of the Sigma Chi Fraternity, a member of the Knights of Columbus, and a member of quite a few service oriented organizations on my campus. As much as I love psychology, I've had problems with the very research heavy undergraduate track, hence my lower GPA. My goal is to do counseling, therapy, and rehab for PTSD veterans and active duty military. However, counseling for those suffering PTSD of any form is also an option. I also dream of being able to open my own practice one day. I am pursuing grad school either right after I finish my undergrad, or maybe deferring for a year and doing som work with JVC (Jesuit Volunteer Corps) or Americorps to do some service and get some grant money for school. Regardless, I am going to be applying for grad school throughout my senior year. This is where I'm looking for some opinions. While I would love to get my masters in counseling, my grades during undergrad do not make me look like the strongest candidate. There are obvious things I can do to help such as doing well on the GRE, but I don't know if that will be enough. I am very confident that my GPA in my sociology major is more than enough to help me get into a masters program for social work. I have heard that you can do the same exact thing with a masters in social work as you can with a masters in counseling. Are there any benefits to having the masters in counseling over the masters in social work, or are they minimal? Any information would be very helpful! Thank you in advance! Respectfully, LAKingsMaverick
