  1. Got into UW - Madison today. Visitation weekends Feb 28 - Mar 1st and Mar 29 - Mar 30th. Heard by email
  2. Congrats that's so awesome! Best analytical program in the country at that...killin it.
  3. Might be the best young organic chemist in the world. I would do many many things to work for him...
  4. You gotta be persistent!!
  5. I think berkeley was the worst. Separate pdf's for just your teaching exp, potential classes you were going to take, etc. Just annoying that you had to compile that in pdf's and upload them separately when a CV could have taken care of almost all of those sections. I finished mine before Thanksgiving just so I have a buffer if I needed to do anything else.
  6. Pretty sure DTB just means by not applying, you're just giving up a spot that you potentially could have had. Ie. apply
  7. I can't see yourself being hurt by sending your scores. Your competitiveness for fellowships may be up in the air, but I believe your score is good enough to help your application. Northwestern's average chem GRE is 694 (it was on their website before, but they have now taken it down) and they are quite a competitive program so I think you should be fine (if not more than fine) with your GRE score. Therefore, I think you should send your score. Good luck!
  8. CONGRATS! that is so awesome. Killin it.
  9. You have a solid research background that'll help "off-set" any concerns you may have. I don't think your schools are stretches, although I do recommend you apply to more programs (3 or 4 more?). Unfortunately, I don't know about structural biology programs well enough to recommend other programs to you.
  10. Definitely helps you more than a 490. Your GRE's don't look as bad now and it'll help show that you got a solid chemistry background coming from a non-R1 university
  11. I think you'll be fine as long as he knows you well enough to write a good LOR
  12. 1. Your GRE scores may be slightly low but your other credentials help balance that out. Good LOR's and solid SOP can make your scores less noticeable. 2. No you will be fine, if you reported your scores on the application and they match up to your actual sent scores, you won't have any issues. 3. Just like I said in the first answer, they are low, but if your LOR and SOP are strong, you should be fine because you have good credentials otherwise. 4. caltech, berkeley, boston college, emory (huw davies specifically) has some good organometallic programs...this is only off the top of my head without doing much research. I'm sure there are more fantastic organometallic programs I haven't mentioned.
  13. Good luck! you seem very qualified! May the odds be forever in your favor....just saw the new Hunger games movie. Don't judge haha
  14. Great stats. Good luck with your applications! Hopefully we'll all hear back soon.
  15. you should still apply (what do you have to lose? basically a denial if you don't so it can't get worse) and mention what happened in your SOP. I know you're suppose to really only talk about your strengths but a few sentences explaining your situation won't hurt. Good luck!
  16. The key thing to remember is, all you need is one acceptance...
  17. That's a fair statement, but I feel as if the person you mention is probably the best qualified to view your application due to overlapping research interests. Also, I doubt they'll reject you due to the sole fact that they alone don't have space in their lab. If they don't but still feel as if you're qualified, I feel as if they'd either accept you knowing that you can't enter their lab or pass on your application to someone you mentioned in your application (most of mine asked for a list of possible PI's). Correct me if my logic if flawed
  18. I mentioned one professor in detail. A paragraph's worth. Discussed specific research and why him/her and the school are a good fit.
  19. Here is northwestern's. Maybe more middle of the road relative to the schools you could be applying to http://www.chemistry.northwestern.edu/graduate/prospective/faq.html
  20. All of my schools say you can't edit your applications after submission. But thanks! I appreciate it
  21. you're awesome. Thanks!
  22. Quick question for all. So I just realized that in the SOP that I submitted for one of my schools, there were two grammatical errors that should have been obvious. Without correction, they kinda sound bad...(ie. said 'pursue PhD' instead of 'pursue a Ph.D. and 'can subject to' instead of 'can be subjected to') So my question is, should I not worry about it since they were really the only two mistakes and everything else sounds ok? or should I email someone to try and change my SOP?
  23. I literally got my score at 12:00 am EST. But that may be because I live in the EST time zone? so maybe it'll be time zone dependent...but if not, then 12:00 as EST was the time I got mine!
  24. you definitely shouldn't try and make your own cream...
