  1. Hello. the Gradcafe. I am applying to Columbia, SIPA for the spring term of 2014. I know this kind of question is being asked a lot in here but I am worried about one thing in particular so I would really appreciate any sincere responses! I have 3.5 GPA (US undergrad), GRE scores: 163 Verbal, 168 Quant. I am from Korea and I speak Korean, English, and Spanish fluently. I think I can get good recommendations and I am currently working on my personal statement. But I do not have much work experience. I interned in Spain for 2 month at an immigration center. I interned in Peru for 1 month at a human rights institution. (They were both a part of summer program. that's why I worked there only for 1-2 months) Then, I interned for 9 month in Boston at a small NGO. And finally I worked at a rehabilitation center in Korea for 1 year after graduating from college. So my total work experience is about 2 years worth but SIPA says people usually have 3 years of work experience before entering SIPA. Also, I have worked here and there. So now I am wondering whether my lack of work experience can be compensated by my other qualities including my GPA, GRE scores and etc. Please let me know and thank you so much for reading!
  2. Wow. Thx everyone. I guess i should really take a calculus course. I graduated from college already and i am planning on taking online courses. Would that help? And if it does could you guys recommend me any good online course institutions?
  3. Thank you everyone for your replies. But I have one more question! I took an SAT subject test on Math Level II about 5 years ago. I got 750 on it. Would it be helpful to put it on my resume as well or do they not care about that either?
  4. Hello, I graduated from college about a year ago and I plan to apply to SIPA for the upcoming spring enrollment (2014). I think SIPA focuses more on quantitative background compared to other IR grad schools and it requires its prospective students to write a Quantitative Resume I am not sure whether my quantitative background is strong enough so I would really appreciate it if you can tell me whether it looks good enough or not. Undergraduate - Microeconomics B - Macroeconomics B+ - Fundamental International Economics B - Sustainable Development (Heavily focused on economics) A- - Internet/Web Technology (Computer Programming) A- Highschool - Precalculus (Honors) B+ - A.P Statistics 3/5 Professional Experience - Data Analysis/Presentation (Internship in Spain) If this does not look good enough, I am going to take an extra course this summer. I think they also want students to have taken a undergraduate level calculus but I do not have that but I am hoping that this is good enough. Oh, BTW, I have 168 Quant. score on GRE; I wonder if it helps. So if anybody know anything about SIPA quantitative resume, please comment! I would really appreciate it! Thank you!

  6. Hello, theGradCafe! I took my first GRE test about two weeks ago. I am an international student and I got 161 Verbal and 170 Quant. But unfortunately, my AW score came out to be 3.0. I did look over some materials for AW section but this is so much lower than I had expected. I am trying to apply to MIA at SIPA for the Spring of 2014 admission. My undergrad (NE region in the US.) GPA is 3.5 and I have worked here and there for about two years total (all of them being unpaid internships). Should I retake the GRE for a better AW score on July? or Should I start working on my SOP instead? Thank you so much for reading! Any sincere answers would be very much appreciated!
