  1. You may get a mix of opinions on this. I was told not go to Europe for a PhD if my goal is to ultimately work in the US. I am a Canadian citizen, going to grad school in the US this fall, and was discouraged by my profs and US grad students from studying in Europe since my goal is to work in the US (or Canada) as a prof one day.
  2. I'm a Canadian student who just graduated from Dalhousie University and I am attending a fully funded MSc program in Virginia! I was also offered another very well-funded MSc program at a school in Delaware but chose the school in Virginia instead. So, yes!! It may depend on the school/program but it is definitely possible to go to the US for a master's and have the school give you a very good funding package
  3. NSERC sent the CGS M offer to my email. I got the news last Friday (14th) actually, but didn't come online to the forums until now.
  4. Hi everyone!!! about 1 week ago I posted here disappointed that I was waitlisted, and frustrated with my ranking and scores (see a few posts above). My ranking must have been 61/103 overall and not 61/103 on the waitlist like I assumed. I GOT OFF THE WAITLIST! I got a NSERC CGS M award!!!!!!!!!!! :D Miracles do happen THANK YOU NSERC YOU HAVE MADE ME SO HAPPY. Anyone else got the happy news??!?! *happy dance!*
  5. You must have had an advisor that helped you with your research? Ask them if your work is publishable and if it is, work out an outline with your advisor's help. You MAY get to be first author, but if your advisor makes you even last author it still looks good that you can get a publication under your belt. A last author publication is still good as an undergrad. You don't need to be the sole author and it looks better (I think) to be a co-author (first, second, third or last are fine). I shows your can collaborate with others.
  6. I am going to William & Mary starting this fall! I am going to be in the Graduate School of Marine Science (Virginia Institute of Marine Science). Can't wait!
  7. Hi everyone, I applied for NSERC PGS M funding and I was waitlisted. Today, I got my rankings and scores for each category (after sending an email requesting them). I am ranked 61/103 in the Earth Sciences group. So disappointed. I got a FAILING % in Academic Excellence, even though I have a 3.84/4.3. Which, ok, isn't THAT great, but I worked extremely hard and graduated at the top of my class. I got a 70% in both the other categories though (Research potential/abilities and Communication/Leadership). When do you guys start the next application? I was thinking of starting it soon to get a head start and make it perfect so that it is submitted before I start my Master's program this fall. Although, I can't change my grades, maybe I can strengthen the rest of my application. Although, this past fall and winter I got a 4.0/4.3 in both semesters, so that may help. Let me know when you guys plan on starting your next NSERC PGS M application
  8. Anyone?
  9. Hi everyone! I just finished my BSc at Dalhousie and I was waitlisted for NSERC PGS M funding. Does anyone know if anyone ever gets off the waitlist?! I am going to assume being waitlisted is a polite rejection, but I can have hope there's still a chance? Is there someone I could call to see where I stand on the waitlist? Anyone have any experiences with NSERC PGS M waitlists? Could I update my application somehow to move myself up the waitlist? I've gotten numerous awards and have considerably strengthened my research experience since the application deadline back in October. Thanks for your help.
