Hello, I'm considering on renting an apartment with the Walnut Capital. It seems that they have multiple units all over the city and with diverse quality and price ranges. So far, I'm pleased with their response speed and detailedness of their units. I've inquired about their apartments on Neville st. They said they have another unit on Bellefont St. Does anyone know the quality of neighborhood around these streets? For those of you who are more familiar with the city, Are there any good places for grad students to live close to UPMC? (region and apartment names) I've heard that Oakland is an undergrad concentrated area and grad students do not like to live there. While I would like to live in Shadyside, I am also considering the proximity and convenience of short commutes. Thank you in advance!
  2. Hey everyone, I will also be attending IBGP starting August!! I am looking to get a place with a couple roommates (1-2) who will be attending UPitt this upcoming fall. Originally, I wanted to get a single room apartment, but it would be cheaper to share a place. Plus, it would be a great way to get to know people. I would like to look into an apartment or a house in Squirrel hill, shadyside, or Oakland. If anyone is interested in rooming with me (22yo female), please let me know and we can chat!!
  3. I interviewed with IBGP last weekend and it went pretty well. For those of you who interviewed with IBGP, how long did it take for you to hear back from them? And if you knew others who interviewed along with you, how many of them were accepted ? I really liked this program and I am SO anxious to hear back. For UCD AMC, they called me the following Tuesday after the recruitment weekend, but they also only had one and only recruitment weekend this year. I realize UPITT IBGP had multiple weekends, so I just don't know what their acceptance system is like. Does anyone have experience with UPITT?? THank you!
  4. what she meant was that the board has still yet to decide who will be accepted/rejected. I did complete all my applications (all materials have been received by NU at this point for sure)
  5. Hello, I applied to F14 Northwestern University Integrative biological sciences program (IBIS). The due date for all applications was 12/15 and I submitted my app on THAT day. I've been trying to find out the progress on the phone with the program assistant, but she says much of the application is still open. Has anyone heard back from NU's ibis? I've looked through the forum and saw that not many people have heard back from NU's ibis program either. It's my dream school and it's almost middle of February.. I am getting a little nervous right now..... please help!
  6. I think your best bet is to memorize a LOT (and I mean A LOT!) of vocabs. Reading comprehension skills don't come in a matter of few days. On the other hand, vocab is memorization. I think you should try the Magoosh vocab flashcards online. A lot of their words are on the exam and their app is a very efficient way of studying vocabs.
  7. I just recently took my GRE and am ready to finanlize all my applications to schools. I am applying to mostly biomedical sciences department in medical schools associated with the institution. I am just getting a little nervous because I may not be as competitive as I wish.. So here are my stats: "public Ivy" in Virginia BIology Major (3.5 in major, 3.42 overall) --> I had some difficult personal reasons that tanked my gpa to 3.0 my 2nd year but I've been doing exceedingly well every since then. GRE: V:160 Q:164 (both ~85-90%percentile from my prediction; i haven't received official scores yet) Experience: Dev Bio lab for 1yr; Reproductive Neurobiology lab for2 yr; working on honors thesis (submitting for publication next spring); acknoledgement on a poster; no publications yet Another thing that may be taken into account: international student (But i've been living in the States for the past 11 years) So schools I'm applying to now in the order of my preference: Northwestern biomed (Evanston) Weill Cornell medical college biomed Colorado Denver biomed UVA biomed Georgetown biomed U Pitt biomed U Wisconsin Madison neuroscience U Wisconsin madison eproductive biology Drexel biomed U Mass Boston biomed ALSO: I am applying to be a lab technician @ Rockefeller/Weill Cornell/ Einstein Medical school. Do you think it would increase my chances of getting into better PHD programs after 1-2 years of experience in these institutions?
  8. Hello, I'm a minority female student who has just recently turned my future directions to follow a PhD program in neuroendocrinology/ molecular mechanisms. I am a rising senior and all this time I was planning on doing med school but my international status is making it really difficult. So, I decided to chase my other passion- research. . I have some ideas of where to look since talking to my PI but it's difficult to gauge where I lie in the GPA/experience spectrum amongst all other doctoral applicants. So here are my stats: Undergrad institution: College of William and Mary in VA(ranks as one of the top 10 public ivy schools) major: Biology/almost done with my Chemistry minor GPA: 3.45 (I will try really hard next fall to raise it up to 3.5) this is pretty low and makes me question my application competancy Research exp: 1 yr in virology 1 yr in molecular developmental lab will finish up with 2 years in reproductive neuroendocrinology lab at the end of my 4th year which I found out is my love and passion TA for chemistry my senior year awards/honors: dean's list 3 times (past 3 years but I am planning on making two more next year) summer research scholarship will have finished an honors thesis on reproductive neuroendoc at the end of my senior year rec letters: I know my PI will have a phenomenal letter for me because i have developed a new technique for the lab to use/ put in lots of time for the lab GRE: I haven't taken it yet... So far with the stats, where can I apply with good chances? I would hate to overshoot for schools and not get into any programs Thank you for your time!!
