Garcia reacted to TakeruK in Waiting it out to increase scholarship offer?
If your plan is to simply say nothing until as close to the deadline as possible in hopes that they will raise your offer, I'm afraid that it is very unlikely to work. They can't read your mind!
It is perfectly fine to wish that your scholarship offer will be higher. But the school won't know this unless you tell them! You need to start the process sooner rather than later because if there is a limited amount of money they have to "top up" offers, it might already be used up by late April.
However, before you begin, you really need to decide which school is really your top choice. I would not go down a path of negotiation with a school unless you are prepared to take the offer if they meet your needs. So, once you are sure you want to attend this school, contact them and let them know that you are interested in their offer but you are worried about the financial offer meeting your needs. If you have a competing offer from another school that is higher, then use that offer to leverage your negotiation (be sure to use two comparable schools though). If you have nothing to leverage your request other than you simply want more money, then you can certainly still try that if you wish but it is unlikely to be successful.

Garcia got a reaction from plddp in Chicago Harris
I really enjoyed it. They provided a lot of information about things like career services, student life and support. The faculty that spoke were inspiring and impressive.
This was the largest group they had ever had attending this event so I think they handled it well considering the number of attendees.
I met a lot of great people, including current students, both first and second year who were really friendly and answered all my questions.
Overall, it's clear that the recent influx of funding and support from the University of Chicago has allowed them to ramp up their offerings to better serve the increasing number of students they hope to recruit in the coming years.

@Garcia That's a good question. I can't put my finger on it, but it's probably a combination of things. LBJ's class is 70% from Texas, and Michigan's is 70% from out of state. Michigan awards aid to 68% of the class vs. 37% at LBJ (stats I think I found on their websites but who knows if they've changed). I've only spoken to one LBJ alum who is in law school now, but I've spoken to two Michigan students who both have outstanding credentials. And then reading about how established/old Michigan's program is and their website gave me such good impressions. And isn't Michigan better known/higher ranked as a University? (understanding that that doesn't mean their MPP programs would correlate) I could be wrong. The Peterson's info is comforting!

There was an option to indicate on the registration form whether you were interested in attending a class on Thursday. I didn't do it but I'm assuming they'll follow up with those who do.

I'm in love with Michigan. I want to study social policy and work closely with social work and business students. I also like the idea of staying in the Midwest, closer to my family. I had to email with them yesterday about something and they said "mid-March." Probably want to set expectations low re: the release date.

@thex11factor I applied for early decision. Even after they'd extended the deadline, I heard from them when they said they'd send notifications. They called to tell me about my acceptance offer and they've sent out regular communications since about webinars and other information about the school. I'm happy with how communicative they've been.

Different focus. Lauder is international business, intercultural management, obligatory study abroad, area studies and business language training to conduct business abroad.
Fels: local government, strong relationship to Philadelphia public organizations, balance btw problem solving and theory, small class intake, more New England catchment area with fewer internationals. Fels gets less publicity as it does not feed into federal /international organizations and small class compared to SIPA, SAIS. But if you want a small, friendly and excellent program with easy access to profs, quant policy analysis and inter-departmental opportunities (electives at Wharton B-School), Fels would be a great choice. Many alumni work in senior positions in City of Philadelphia and state government. Good opps to do internships or capstone project guided by Fels alumni. I would think Fels is more selective than some higher profile schools on this board such as GWU or NYU.

Wanted to update everyone by sharing that I received my full acceptance and funding letter via email late tonight. There's an Admitted Student's Day/Weekend schedule, for Saturday, March 25. Haven't received anything in the mail. MyStatus still says "In Review." Good luck to everyone else! Hope the wait is over or over soon!

Hey everyone!
I applied to the MpAff at the LBJ school (along with a degree in Community and Regional Planning in the Architecture school) and was admitted last week.
I received a really significant amount of funding and my official letter came in on Sunday with the details.
Keep waiting and hoping on it! I still have yet to hear on funding from the MSCRP side.

Same, except for MPAff. I assumed that because it said, "your admissions offer does not include one of the limited fellowships" that meant I wasn't being offered funding.
Did anyone get a letter with different language about funding?
I got into Chicago Harris with half tuition. Texas is still less expensive but they're both in my top three. However, if Harris seems more interested in me ( Texas offers no funding), I'll stick with Harris.
