  3. Got an invite from Columbia but haven't heard from Rockefeller or Harvard yet :/
  4. Is Rockefeller your top choice? It's mine...I've never visited but I've heard they treat grad students extremely well. And no, I haven't heard from them yet either. So what do you think about staying with current grad students vs. staying in a hotel for MIT's open house?
  5. I received an invitation to interview at MIT by email today. The interview dates are 2/8, 2/22, or 3/8. Needless to say, I'm elated. Good luck to you!
  6. Currently 500 pages into The Stand by Stephen King. I love how most people in this thread are reading material pertinent to their respective fields. I'm applying to microbiology programs, and The Stand is about an epidemic superflu...
  7. This has all been so helpful, thanks a lot guys!
  8. So I just got my first interview invite from Yale Microbiology, and yes, it has made my winter break. But now I'm stuck with some new questions: what are the interviews usually like? Do any of you know what kinds of questions you would ask about a science program? Also, what do people usually wear for these things? Good luck to all of you

  10. With your GPA, GRE scores, and research experience, you have a substantial shot at getting into any of these schools, in my opinion. I wouldn't skimp on the SoP though, just to be sure.

  13. Hey guys, I'm gearing up to apply for the 2009 NSF GRFP...but I'm a little confused as to which research I should use for my proposal. I'm going to be a senior this year, I've got tons of research experience, and am currently working in a lab. Should I use the research I'm completing now for my proposal? Or should I simply add it to my list of previous work and find a new project to write about? Do applicants normally pore over the literature looking for areas where they can envision the next step or do they stay within their comfort zone for writing the proposal?
