  1. it all depends on how you take the visit...if you do some networking and maybe get the names and email addresses of current students and actually get some correspondence going then yeah, it definitely is helpful. and if i'm totally off base here, it helps schools to know you're really enthusiastic about them and that you're just not copy-pasting your Statement... visiting is NOT useful if you just sort of follow around the group like a sheep.
  2. To canadiana and missycari and rising star thank you for responses. it helps to know that not all is lost, especially when i feel like i took full advantage of my smaller, less known institution =] to duguy333 i appreciate you sharing what your advisor said. standardized tests are bunk. look at my post about my gmat scores vs. my gre scores...all reveresed. doesn't make any sense, and i think most schools know that. i've heard they use the scores to verify grades...just to make sure you didn't get a stellar gpa and like 400Q 400V...then it might be a red flag.
  3. i have a problem perhaps along these same lines, only not. i graduated with honors and a 3.97 from a less than stellar undergraduate institution (third tier according to us news and world report)...i received a b-plus and an a from an ivy league school secondary summer school program while in high school. GRE: 640 V 790 Q 5.0 Writing GMAT: 720 overall (V 93%ile, Q 81%ile) and 6.0 Writing i'm curious as to how my ugrad institution will affect my chances of making into a top graduate institution?
