  1. I know this, but I also really appreciate your responses! I am trying to learn as much about the admissions landscape of schools in Houston and Austin, and you seem to have a pretty good idea. Thanks again!
  2. Thank you for the response! That's good to know. Do you know how selective Rice University, Texas A&M, and UT Houston Health Science Center are for the PhD and Masters programs? Thanks again
  3. Hi guys, I graduated from Texas A&M University in 2014 with a degree in Computer Science with a Math minor. After doing software engineering for almost a year, I have realized that I want to go back to school and get a Masters or PhD in statistics (particularly data science). I had a ~3.9 GPA and graduated with an honors degree. While in undergrad, I did a little bit of research in high performance computing, but no papers or anything. I could get decent recs from a Math Modeling professor and a Data Science prof (from CS department) but just from classes I took. I can't find anything about the University of Texas Austin Statistics department rankings, but UT would be my first choice because I love living in Austin. How would I look as an applicant / Does anyone know about selectivity at UT Austin? Thank you so much for any input you can give me! P.S., my GRE scores are 170Q/164V
  4. Sorry, applying for PhD. Thanks!
  5. Undergrad in CS from engineering-heavy state school Domestic US Student GPA: 3.87 Major GPA: 4.0 GRE: 166 (Quant) / 167 (Verbal) / 4.0 (Writing) Research Experience: 1.5 years of research under a professor designing and implementing parallel algorithms. No papers though. LOR: 1 from prof that I research under, 2 from profs of classes where we did semi-independent research. My list of schools now is: Reach: MIT Berkeley Stanford UCLA UCSD Match: Rice UNC UCSB UC Irvine U Minnesota Twin Cities Safety: UCSC My Undergrad University I'm really not sure where I stand with applying to a lot of these schools. Could I get some with finding what kind of range of schools I should look at for matches and safeties? Thank you!
