  1. No, but I was also told that I am on the alternate list for funding.
  2. Rejected at Stanford and Chicago on the same day. Not surprised though, since it's taken them so long to send out notification.
  3. Yeah, its possible that they want to check everyone out at the visiting weekend before making any decisions. Hmmm. I guess ultimately I didn't want to spend a lot of money to visit the school that is lowest on my list for one day when they might not fund me or even reimburse me. Oh well.
  4. I feel a little like I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place. The school that is lowest on my list (but still a top 20 in my field) accepted me via email and said that the winners of university fellowships would be announced a few weeks later. Even though they are lowest on my list of ten schools, still I have not received a firm offer of funding yet from any other school and want to keep my options open. The problem is that in that same email they mentioned an admitted students day, and strongly encouraged us to attend and asked us to let them know as soon as possible if we were coming so they could budget accordingly, but said that they would only reimburse a few people for that trip and that this reimbursement would only be decided after the fellowships were announced. I replied to the email and said, as politely as possible, that I was looking forward to hearing about the financial award decisions, but that since I had received admission to several other schools my decision to attend the prospective student's day would be dependent on hearing about said fellowship. But it seems as though they want us to buy plane tickets to come visit even before a) fellowship winners are announced and they even decide who they will reimburse for the trip. I am doing a lot of campus visits already, and didn't really want to shell out to attend a one-day event for the lowest school on my list, particularly before they even tell me whether or not I will receive a fellowship, but I think they might have found my response snide. Grrrr
  5. Not to be the bringer of bad news, but UCLA has already held their prospective student weekend, according to a friend of mine.
  6. Has anyone heard from Stanford? I have heard rumors of an admitted student visit, but haven't really heard much else that can be substantiated.
  7. Rejected for Princeton. Bummer.
  8. If the first round offers have already been extended, wouldn't those on the waitlist have already been notified though? I was just looking at the livejournal who_got_in for last year, and someone said that those on the waitlist at Brown were flown out for the interview as well as those on the shortlist. Makes me think that maybe if we were on the waitlists for Princeton or Chicago that we would know already, but who knows?
  9. Has anyone heard about Harvard or Chicago? I suppose by now they've probably notified their top candidates.
  10. They currently have (I think) five first-years in residence, which is definitely optimistic in comparison to other programs, but there are only three each of second and third years, so unless some people dropped out, then perhaps this means that more people accepted the offer last year than they thought would, maybe meaning fewer offers this year? Who knows?
  11. If you haven't received an actual rejection yet then it might mean that they are hanging on to your app in case offers are declined. The interviews are set for March 13-16, so I would imagine that offers of admission would be made soon after that and then people would start accepting/declining, in which case they might want to fill spots if they go under quota. Hang in there!
  12. The invitation that I got was email (on 2/4), but since it was so early I wouldn't be surprised if they did a second round in a few weeks if people decline offers. Also, they do a waitlist, and I am like 99% sure that I heard that at least one person on the waitlist last year got in.
  13. Is anyone else interviewing at Brown? I received a request for an interview via email (they didn't actually call it an *interview* but that's obviously what it is since I haven't been offered admission, but rather am on their shortlist). Now I am totally freaking out because I don't know if the people who fly up for interviews are basically "in" as long as they don't royally screw up, or whether, say, they are flying up twice as many people as they are will actually offer admission to. I heard that there is a waitlist as well. If anyone else is going and has more info, or has interviewed at any Classics programs and can tell me what to expect, I would be so grateful! Thanks!
