Is it a disadvantage compared to other applicants to have LOR from research advisers whose subject of field is different/unrelated to the department you are applying to? For example, LOR from biology professors when applying to applied physics(bio. conc). or LOR from physic professors when applying to BME or biology.
-
When I apply for BME(Instrumental/ nano conc.), I was wondering whether I'll be more disadvantaged than others applicants with the same gpa and other credentials if I have bad grades(2 Cs) in biology but good grades on math/physics.

Hi, I was wondering what the pros and cons for doing Masters first then going for a PhD. I'm currently considering going for a Masters first then a PhD because I don't think I'm competitive enough to go to a top school.

So I have a particular research interest that I might propose to my research adviser but I was debating on whether I should go for a honor thesis or just a research paper. And well as a student looking forward to grad school, I want to do something that will be actually beneficial when applying to grad school.
-
What is the differences between a research paper and a senior thesis? Which is most beneficial?
-
I'm considering BME, applied physics, biophysics w/ either bio or nano concentration and was wondering what the specific differences are. Thanks:)

Hi, I was wondering what are the top schools for applied physics w/ biological or nano concentration. What schools shall I consider if I have a GPA around 3.6- assuming everything else is decent

Thank you for your replies guys! I'm already spending lots of time on my research so I don't mind the time consumption and I wasn't sure whether it will be enough. But what bothers me is are we the ones who have to set or design all the necessary experiments? Because I believe that it will take up time to plan (proposal due date February) and I don't think I will be too confident about it.

Hi, I'm currently a junior and was wondering what the pros and cons for doing an undergraduate honor thesis. Is it doable in the limited time range? and is it really difficult? Thanks

Hi, during highschool, I was lucky enough to participate in an undergraduate research program, and I was wondering whether I should include this for research experience when applying to grad school. Cuz it is an undergraduate research but I just done it in my highschool year. I didn't get anything published and did not build up a good relation w/ the PI but I did participated in a poster session. Similarly, in college, I did research in a lab for 5months but wasnt able to get along w/ the PI and no publications and now working in a different lab. Do these kinds of research count if I'm not able to receive a recommendation letter from the letter or get anything published? How should I make these researches look "appealing"? Thanks!!

Are these scholarships usually competitive? Like I do have some professors whom I'm interested on doing research with and I really don't want failing to get into REU programs or failing to receive scholarships prohibit me from engaging w/ their research.
-
Is it possible that professors allow students from other institutes to participate in their lab? and if possibly so, do you think it will be beneficial?
-
Johns Hopkins University has a very strong biomedical engineering program which I recommend you consider.
-
So how does the program itself come into play cuz apparently there are people w/ different backgrounds in the same lab ..

Hi I'm a junior at a top10 university majoring in biology/physics. So I'm planning to apply to grad school and I have interests in bioelectronics and developing "artificial" memory in cells. And the problem is that I don't know what department I should apply to. Shall I apply to physics/applied physics, biology, BME? Because another problem is that I have a mediocre cumulative gpa (3.5ish) due to some biology courses(done really bad C's :/) but have decent gpa w/ physics and math courses. Will it help me if I apply to physics or BME rather than biology? Or will I still have the same chances regardless? Thank you!!
-
Thanks! Do you know anything about the degree of financial assistance given by the universities I mentioned above for MS pursuing students?
-
Hi, I'm currently a junior in a top 10 university with a cumulative gpa of 3.5ish(bio:3.3ish, physics:3.8ish), do I have any shot to be accepted to schools such as Stanford,MIT, berkeley, uc-sandiego, georgia tech, cornell for BME? Assuming that I have relatively good recommendation and personal statement? Thanks!

Hi, I'm a junior double majoring in biophysics(primary) and physics. I'm looking forward to major in biomedical engineering for grad school. But currently, my major gpa for biophysics is comparably lower than physics because some biology elective courses In this case is it better to switch my primary major to physics? And say that I'm apply to something like E.E(unrelated to both of my majors) in grad school. Will they look at both of my gpa majors? or just my primary major? or the gpa that is more related to the department I'm applying to. Thanks!!

Hi, i've heard that it's much easier to be accepted to a MS program than a pHD program. Is this true? If so, how hard is it to be accepted into a MS program for prestigious schools such as Stanford, MIT for biological engineering. Thanks!
-
Thanks guys for your answers! Just one more thing How competitive is it to get in REU programs or along that line?

Hi I'm currently a junior studying biophysics. I have particular interest in developing bio computers or something along this line. However, my main concern is what major I should pursue on for grad school. I'm just worried that pursing a degree(engineering in this case) that is quite another area will prevent me from going into depth into a certain field. Because lot of people continue on with their major or similar field of study done in college. So I was wondering whether I should stick with biophysics or natural science in grad school or go for bme. By the way later on I'm looking forward to work in the industry. Thanks!

Hi I'm currently a junior majoring in biophysics/biology. I was wondering whether I should do research internship or industry internship during next summer if I'm planning to go to grad school. And if I do research during the summer,, shall I just continue on the research I'm doing currently in the regular semesters(Fall, spring) or shall I apply to do research at a different school. I have done research last summer at my school and i'm still doing it for the regular semesters. Thanks!
