Yes, the weather was a huge plus (especially since I'll be in freezing Pennsylvania this weekend). I agree that it is really annoying and unnecessary for the department to leave people hanging like this. I actually felt that they didn't do the best job of communicating with me, as an accepted student, either. I had a great experience meeting faculty over the weekend, but didn't hear from them at all before then. Anyway, I will be making my final decision after I've finished my visits next week, hopefully others will do the same and everyone still waiting will hear soon.

I attended the recruit events over the weekend. I had a really great time, the weekend was well organized, the grad students that we met were really friendly, and I got a sense that the whole department really wanted to help us make the best decision for ourselves, rather than convince us to attend UNC. For people that haven't heard, I don't want to be the bearer of bad news, and I don't really have any insider knowledge, but I did not get the sense that they will be making any more acceptances. I know that they are looking for a cohort of about 12, and 4 people had already committed as of the start of the weekend. There were close to 20 accepted students in attendance, and I was told 5-8 international students/others that were not able to attend, but had already been accepted. Based on my conversations, it seemed as though several of the visiting students were leaning heavily towards UNC (myself included). So, it seems as though the odds are not in favor of the department needing to draw anyone from the waitlist, but, again, there may be many factors that I'm not aware of. Anyway, good luck to everyone, either at UNC or in another department!

I'm visiting next week (their recruit weekend is Friday and Saturday), but I'm from NC and had a ton of friends that went there for undergrad, so I love the campus and Chapel Hill. I've had really positive email correspondences with current grad students since my acceptance (even one that wasn't "assigned" to talk to me). I haven't heard anything from any professors, but I guess I'll meet them next weekend. Hopefully most people who are on the fence will make up their minds after this visit and give people on the waitlist more of an idea of where they stand. Good luck to everyone that's still waiting!

I got the same email, asking if I was still considering Rutgers. I've gotten a few other acceptances, and they were not my top choice, so I asked to be removed from the applicant pool. Good luck to everyone still waiting!

I'm planning to go to the visit day, but it's the same weekend as Penn State, so, I'm not sure how I'm going to work it out. Hopefully I'll see you there!

Congrats on the acceptance, Monkeych! I see that there are a couple of website rejections posted on the results page. Mine still says "pending decision" but I also haven't received any phone calls. Monkeych/anyone else that's been accepted, has your status on the website changed to show your acceptance? Did you get any sense of a timeline for how long they will be calling admits?

So, it's been a few days, still nothing. It's seriously killing me! Has anyone heard anything else? Monkeych, any word from your contact?

Just found out I got in to UNC! I was sure I was rejected after everyone was posting admits a few weeks ago and I had heard nothing, but today I got an email "congratulating me on my acceptance," and inviting me to the recruitment weekend. At first I thought maybe I had ended up on the wrong email list (I still had no contact, no status change on my online app.), but finally I searched through my mail and found an acceptance letter! It must have arrived yesterday or the day before. So excited!

Congrats! I'm not sure about March, I work weekends, but I am definitely going to try to make it.

Hey nderin04, I don't know if you've already had your call, but I'm the other person that recently posted that I received an email from a potential advisor asking to discuss my application. It turned out to be an acceptance! Hope yours is the same!!

Has anyone heard anything from UMD (College Park)? I don't see anything on the results page for this year, but it looks like last year they began sending acceptances as early as Feb. 11. I am anxiously waiting, so I would love some info.!

Hey everyone, Would either of the UNC admits be willing to share some details (who called, did they mention cohort size, how long they will be accepting people)? Has anyone else applied and not heard anything yet? (My application status still just says "submitted"). It seems strange to only have two acceptances posted, and that they are three days apart, but there weren't a lot of acceptances posted in previous years either, so maybe not a lot of grad cafe-ers apply to UNC Soc. Basically, I haven't heard anything yet, should I be worried? Thanks!
