  1. I didn't apply to either schools so i am not sure about the specifics of each curriculum...but i am not so sure if i agree with you that an ir degree necessarily place you better for a private sector job, especially in the consulting/finance industry. i think the best advice I can offer is that to go with your guts instinct. you must be happy at whichever school you go. i just had a chat with my academic advisor at college and he told me the name of the degree, whether it is a MA or MPP, doesn't matter much in the long run. it seems to me that you are leaning towards uscd because your gf is there and that you like the program better. go for it and don't look back and regret. if i were you, i'll make sure that i spend my two years in a program that i like better, taking classes that interest me as well as building up my networks with both the students and the professors. doors WILL open. hope this is helpful. good luck with your decision!
  2. i used the same address everyone is using. the reason why they told me their admission decision over email is that i sent them an email on 18 march, explaining that i need to know the outcome asap because i need to respond to a job offer. they replied on 19 march to say that a decision has been made and i should receive something in the post soon. so when i emailed them yesterday, i pointed out that their letter has not reached me. i think they are obliged to tell me, since they promised it would be sent out soon in their reply on 19 match. i am not trying to be a wet blanket here, but i can't imagine a school will inform you that you have been admitted and give you less than a week to respond. i think it is in our best interest to make a decision based on whatever offers we have at this point, instead of just waiting for msfs. i am not saying this because i am rejected (i got into my top choice anyway), but i really think that msfs is being extremely unprofessional here by insisting that decisions can only be conveyed over mail. they have already sent out admittance via email, why can't they do that for rejections?
  3. not sure if anyone is still waiting to hear from msfs. i just dropped them an email reminding them it is already april. they replied within a hour to say that i am rejected. no big deal for me, but if anyone is still waiting, just drop them an email and get your answer i'm done with the season!
  4. i was accepted around the same time as you but did not receive any letter. i emailed them last week and they said the letter will be DHL-ed or fedex-ed to us this week. so don't worry!
  5. i have been admitted too but i applied directly from undergraduate. in my opinion, you don't have to complete all of them, but you need to complete most of them, especially intermediate micro and macro. i applied with grades in intermediate micro, macro, econometrics and intl trade theory. i was taking intl finance when i was applying. the letter stated clearly that we must proof that we have completed the course before we can enroll. this is because all the first year courses assumed you have solid background in maths/stats and economics. IPS sure takes these requirements very seriously. hence, having completed the majority of requirements help convince the adcomms that you will be ready by the time you enroll. if you are really serious about applying for this program, i strongly recommend you try and complete intermediate mirco and macro at least. hope this helps!
  6. I am still in college and have no full time work experience (but plenty of policy related internship). I appplied this season to Stanford IPS, Harris MPP, Georgetown MPP and Georgetown MSFS. I got into Stanford, GPPI($15k) and Harris, but not MSFS (did not receive any email from them). Now i am thinking of not attending any of these schools because i did not get sufficient funding. At the same time, I have already passed my country's FSO test and will be joining the equivalent of the state department. My dream school has always been WWS, but I didn't apply this time because I know i stand no chance without full time work experience. so, should i go ahead and reject these offers? i was thinking of reapplying after a few years of work experience...would i then be more competitive for a fellowship? some of my friends told me to work first, while others said i should get my masters. in my mind, the worst case scenerio would be getting rejections from schools that previously accepted me. also, i am thinking of completing a part time degree in asian studies while working, does getting a masters help or hurt when i apply again in say....5/6 years? all advice appreciated!!
  7. so i wrote in to msfs and this is the reply i got "The information regarding the admissions decision on your application has been mailed out and you should receive it shortly. Unfortunately, that is all I can tell you at this time." annoying isn't it.
  8. cruel indeed... i am just wondering what's so hard to send mass rejections.. if i haven't been accepted, i just want to be notified as soon as possible, nurse my wounds, and get on with life. why leave us hanging there
  9. eh..does anyone know if it is right to assume that I am rejected if I haven't received any email from SFS, and should be waiting for my rejection letter in the mail? just want to start thinking about my options...
  10. i will take the stanford offer because of the full scholarship... stanford is a great school, but at the same time, i realized that the ips program seems to gear you towards careers in thinktanks, is that what you want to do? also, note that ips program is very young and the alumni network wouldnt be as strong as SAIS, is this important to you? congrats btw, do you mind sharing your stats?
  11. i got the email too!!! no funding though..i am not surprised. am entering straight from college...
  12. decisions will be sent via email within the next 24 hours
  13. just got an email...admitted but with no funding.. for those who havent received, i think they are sending out emails to those with funding, then to people without funding... my last name starts with A btw...good luck
  14. congrats to everyone checked my inbox and there's nothing...so depressing...
  15. maybe you can email them and explain your situation? tell them you are gg away and will only return in april..i think they will understand
