  1. I'm going this fall for cultural anthropology. You?
  2. At this point I think I'm going to Boston. I've been talking to Mark Palmer who is the dept. admin. and he seems really nice. He has been very helpful and excited about everything. I just hope I get some money!
  3. Hey Fasulye, I'm studying socio-cultural anthro. I emailed the department too and was told: "Congratulations on being accepted! At this point, you are on our waiting list for financial aid. We have to wait until one person declines before we can offer the aid package (tuition and fees plus stipend) to another candidate. Although this becomes a waiting game, you may well find it worth the wait. If you have to make a decision about another school, please let me know. We can always push for faster results (it doesn't always work, but it is always worth while to try and help you)." In a follow-up email he told me that I technically had until April 15th to give my decision but that sometimes changes depending on funding and other issues (if they give funding they want to know sooner.)
  4. Well it looks like Boston University is the only school I got into. Which is fine since Boston is an amazing city and it is a good program. However, I'm still waiting to hear about funding. I sent out a couple of emails - one to the grad school and one to the dept. but haven't heard back. I saw that someone else got in as well - have you heard anything yet? The department wants me to say yes or no through a form meaning I cannot ask questions. I'm trying to hold out because I dont know if I can afford the tuition without some financial aid. Any suggestions? I've sent the dept. an email saying I'm excited about the prospect of attending but was wondering about the status of funding. Hopefully that means they won't assume I'm a no show but I'm paranoid.
  5. Rejected from Tulane through postal. Rejected from UCLA through their website. Still waiting to hear about funding from Boston but right now it is looking like the only option. But damn that 35K a year tuition would hurt without a little financial assistance!
  6. I got into Boston University! My first response so I was excited. No decision on funding yet though.
  7. I'm cultural, finishing up a masters here at LSU and waiting to hear back too. I heard that Tulane already made their decisions but no word from them as of yet. I also heard Berkeley already picked and it was brutal. One of my good friends had two professors fighting for her and she didn't get in, but they called her to let her know what was going on. Apparently they had 5 spots, the chair claimed 3 of them leaving 2 for the rest of the profs to fight over. Tenure won out (as usual) so if you were in contact with the chair or a prof that had been there forever you might be in. But I wasn't so I'm not even considering them anymore. I applied to Chicago too so I'm a little worried since people are already hearing back. I just want to know where I'm going to be living in 6 months!!
