  1. That's a great idea to meet with her graduate students. I have emailed a couple and one has already responded! I hadn't thought about visiting the libraries on campus or the town, but that is great advice. I think I'll also ask about sitting in on a class. Thank you all!
  2. I'm a girl, so I guess I'll wear a nice dress. I only have a meeting scheduled with the professor I'm hoping will be my advisor if I am admitted, so should I email any of the other faculty to ask about meeting with them as well? I might just email one of the staff about a tour of the department and labs. Thank you for the helpful advice!
  3. I'm visiting a school that I'm applying to in about a week and a half and I need some advice! The professor I'm meeting with told me that she was not planning on taking on any students for fall 2014 because she took one last year, but she is open to it. She was nice and encouraging about it and seemed like she wanted me to visit. Obviously, I need to make a great impression! So, what do I wear? Something business casual? What kind of questions would be good to ask? I know I need to come prepared with copies of my CV and an idea of what I want my MA thesis to be focused on, but is there anything else that I 100% need to have prepared? Help!
  4. Thank you so much for the advice! I'll be sending follow up emails.
  5. I'm having a similar issue that I'd like to get some advice on! I did an internship this summer. I asked my supervisor from the internship to write me a rec and she said that she would suggest I draft a letter for her and then she'd adjust it accordingly. For many reasons that have already been stated by you guys, I feel uncomfortable doing this. The only other person I can think of that I might be able to ask for a rec is a professor I had this past spring, but in a different department (I'm anthropology and the professor is history). She was impressed with my writing and encouraged me to apply to their history master's program. However, I haven't spoken to her since the last day of class in May and I don't want to just use her for this and never talk to her again. Also, I think it would look a lot better to have a rec from my internship. What do you guys think? Should I just suck it up and write the rec and or ask the other professor and risk it looking bad that I don't have a rec from my internship?
  6. I'm applying to four MA programs in biological anthropology to start in Fall 2014. I've contacted the professor that I'd like to be my advisor at each school, but two of them have not responded and it's been a few weeks. Maybe a few weeks isn't anything to worry about and they'll respond eventually? But if they don't, is it a waste of my time to apply to those two schools? If the professor isn't interested in me at all, I don't want to waste my time applying to their schools. Help!
