  1. Does anyone else's decision status for UCLA still say, "To date, no decision has been made on your application"?
  2. LOL, last year was the 7th by snailmail... and they say on their website requests are made up until mid February.
  3. No, not all schools conduct interviews. And then there's a range from phone, skype, and in person when they do.
  4. Yellow Magnet, nope. Not yet. I was thinking the same thing. SAIC is going wild. Hopefully soon. Have you heard anything?
  5. Oh awesome, hopefully you like CMU even better in person
  6. Thanks for the update Rother! End of the week is gnarly, I think last year was the 19th for interviews. Hopefully you get your letter sorted out.
  7. FAR, from what I found it looks like UCLA contacts early march and USC I think does some kind of interview... but I'm not sure when people get notified for that.
  8. Hi ismewilde, your list is pretty interesting. I agree about art center... same deal with calarts and otis. I had thoughts about CMU. I spent a summer in Pittsburgh before and have an aunt there. Downtown is weird and corporate, but they have amazing parks, plus the warhol and the mattress factory are great. And yea, March can't come soon enough.
  9. Thanks marzipanned, herki and colow! All of that info was great. The symposium was cool! Parts were really geared towards undergrad but was nice to hear Hirsch Perlman and Jennifer Pastor speak, they were part of why I applied to UCLA and UCI.
  10. Herki: That would be great! Your signature is very thorough. Do you remember who was on your jury? What were some of the hard hitting questions that they asked? How many sculptors were invited to interview? Thanks, I really appreciate it. Kafralal: That's cool you wanna stay on the west. Probably will be hearing from UCSD pretty soon since they had an early deadline. I was really close to applying to USC but after researching and discovering I would fit in better at Irvine... I had to edit them out. Plus if I don't get into UCLA it will be fun to apply to USC instead next year. Long live the rivalry.
  11. Thanks! That's cool. How'd you like SAIC? Did you talk to many of the grad students? I only know a couple of people who were in the MFA photo program and they didn't really enjoy it. But I know someone who did their BFA in fiber & material studies and loved it. I went to the winter MFA open studios at UCLA and had a great talk with a 2nd year in the program... was the first person I have talked to who had nothing but good things to say about their grad school experience. All of the professors are great, their individual studios are awesome, and they get to TA as much as they want. Hi Kafralal, where did you apply?
  12. Thanks pulpandink, so does that mean you will potentially have to do 2 separate interviews for SAIC?
  13. Meese, I was thinking the same thing. But according to their website we have until the middle of February to be notified for an interview. Maybe (Hopefully) the printmaking department is just ahead of schedule.
  14. Hey marzipanned, welcome to the sculpture thread! You have motivated me to make a signature lol. I submitted applications to SAIC, UCI, UCLA, and Columbia. Good Luck with your Glasgow interview and hopefully the rest of your schools follow suit. The printmakers have me on edge since they are reporting interview requests from SAIC on the freak out forum. Randomly...I had a job interview today and they asked me about my art portfolio and where I see myself in 5 years... Felt kind of how I have been imagining MFA interviews going.
  15. Guess I am super late for this thread. Where are all the sculptors at? Petersons must be kind of accurate... apparently with SAIC sculpture, we have very different odds than the painters... 150 applicants compared to the painters 524 is wild. Where did you end up applying agro?
  16. Oh haha that makes sense. And yea hopefully that extra focus works out for you in the end and that you feel better soon. Totally jealous you heard back so soon. Makes me wish I applied to University of Chicago or somewhere with an early deadline.
  17. Wow, a few hours is brutal. Did you only apply to UO?
  18. Hi spaz, bannedinbc and kafralal are right. the selection committee are going to scroll through a bunch of portfolios. I think hunter has something like a 10 image limit. they want to see your best images/ strongest work. not all of it. one of the toughest parts of being a photographer is knowing how to edit... so try to edit out the fat and select work that best represents your current practice. good luck
  19. Expanding sounds good. I am sure you will figure it out. I like your list a lot as far as painting goes. I met a girl who did the BFA program at RISD and sang it's praises. The past year threads were so exciting. Maybe it will kick up next month.
  20. Oh awesome. Well good luck with Texas Tech. Hopefully you hear back soon!
  21. Hey Tincan, for MICA are you applying to Mount Royal or Hoffberger? I am only applying to 4 schools as well (USC got the axe). Hi fairweather, did you consider Alfred? They are supposed to have a great ceramics program with great funding.
  22. Hi David, I was curious as to which faculty members you have been drawn to so far and were these the one's you initially wanted as advisers? How is the community at UCLA with your fellow grads? I am gonna check out the open studio December 14th and look forward to seeing your work.Take care.
  23. I think it depends on the person and how confident they feel with their practice. I was advised to focus on 3 schools and by another who said to apply to 10. I am on the lower side. I feel my work is strong and am fine with applying next year. Do heavy research. Be as critical of a school as they will be assessing your application materials. The MFA is a terminal degree, so you should make it worthwhile. Applying is awfully expensive.
  24. Yea, I am applying to sculpture programs at: Columbia SAIC UCLA USC UCI Should be an interesting 7 months.
