  1. Hi redudie, I received that email on Jan 21, too. My status page is showing the same thing but if you check at your account to Computer Science Department (https://services.cs.utexas.edu/users/dblogin.html) the second paragraph says: This site and the University graduate application system ("GIAC", "ApplyTexas", "My Status") are separate systems. GIAC does not show the status of your application with CS, and we do not link to your information in their system. Information at GIAC is used for your admission to the University. Your admission to graduate study in CS is based only on the information we have in this system. So I do not know for sure. To tell you the truth I sent all required documents to "My Status" at University of Texas (not CS Dep) only the previous week (I had forgotten it) but I dont think that there is any problem. I dont know which is the exact process. I just saw that they sent me an email for details about GradFest.
  2. Thank you very much. I am an international student so it will be difficult to take this trip. It depends on the funding that they will give me for this trip. But I really want to visit US this period. I think that I could take this trip in order to visit UTCS and other universities, not only 1 university. But I am not so sure for my admission. They have to send something more official.
  3. When I finish my application to UTCS they sent me an email (maybe you received the same email, too) that "Applicants offered admission to the Computer Science doctoral program will be invited to attend GradFest 2014". 21 January, they sent me an email which says: "Congratulations! We're recommending your admission to the UT-Austin Computer Science graduate program to pursue your PhD. We invite you to make travel arrangements to visit us February 20 - 23. We will be contacting you again by the end of the week about how to RSVP for GradFest 2014. You will also receive additional information about the financial award the department will be making to you no later then the week of February 3rd. We hope you will be able to attend and look forward to meeting you" They didnt contact me about how to RSVP for GRadFest, so I'm still waiting. This email is from secretary ( I think) so I am not so sure about their decision. That means that they have accepted me for sure? I don't know but I think that if there is someone who attended the previous gradFest, he could explain us the exact process. In my opinion, this was the first round of admissions. Surely, some students who attend gradFest, finally go to some other universities. So I believe that they will send additional acceptances.
  4. Can I send my GRE and TOEFL scores before I apply at the universities? I mean that the deadlines are 1 December or 15 December and I have not started the applications and I intend to do it the next two weeks. Can I send my TOEFL and GRE scores now?
  5. Thank you for your reply. Yes, I know that V 140 is very bad and this is the reason of my question. I was sure that I would send my first scores but when I saw my a/w scores the second time I thought that the second one is much better than the first one. I am thinking that universities want to check our ability in English language through Verbal section. Is that right? In addition, a/w score is evidence about our ability in English language as well. Of course they want to check additional things but I cannot understand the value of a GRE with low score in a/w and a middle or good score in verbal section.... Some more question: 1. Really are there some fields in application forms that you can add your scores in GRE? 2. Why some universities don't accept two or more GRE scores? I thought that GRE scores are independent from the universities. I mean that ETC gives you the opportunity to send one or more GRE scores to the universities, so what's the problem? 3. You think that my universities are not good choices? My full list of universities is; Princeton, Cornell, Toronto, Berkeley, Boston, Chicago, UCSD, Texas Austin, UCLA, Minnesota, Riverside, Northwestern, McGill, Irvine, Santa Cruz California, Duke, and maybe Virginia. My grade(until now) is 9.8/10 and I have some research experience in a paper with one professor, but no publications, yet. We continue working on it. I also started my Bsc Thesis this semester. Sorry for the number of questions but I really want to learn more about this process. Again, thank you very much!
  6. First of all I am an international student and my goal is to apply to US for phd in Computer Science, especially at the field of Theory. Since a GRE score is required for that, I took the GRE test twice. My first scores are V=147, Q=167, a/w=3. The second time I got V=140, Q=170, a/w=4. I am wondering which of those two would be best to include in my application. Would it be better to send both of them or not? If not, which one is the best one? Moreover my TOEFL score is 94. Some of the universities will be: Berkeley, Toronto, Princeton, UCSD, Chicago, MInnesota, Duke, Riverside. One more question; Do you also recommend or is it possible, to send the TOEFL and GRE scores before I complete the entire application process? Thank you!
